COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Melange a Trois begins with a wonderfully big Strong Belgian-Style Blonde Ale and moves into the extraordinary category through an additional 6 month French Oak Chardonnay Wine Barrel maturation. The essence of Chardonnay permeates while a subtle sweetness remains from the Ale itself. Oak tannins combine to create a fascinating mesh of dry, sweet, and wine-like character. One of our favorites!

Appearance: Hazy orange with a small white head and some lacing.

Aroma: Quite boozy with belgian yeast, interesting chardonnay and oak features, fruity notes and moderate spiciness.

Taste: Quite boozy and sweet (the alcohol is more cloying than the sweetness though) with nice fruity features, moderate spiciness, white wine, Belgian yeast and oak.

Palate: Medium to full body. Good carbonation. Fruity finish. Warming.

Overall: It’s not a bad Tripel and the wine features are interesting but the alcohol is way too present in this one even if it’s a BSA. Lack of balance a bit and the drinkability level is rather low even for the style.

Bottle tasted blind. Clear gold pour with white lacy head. Aroma is boozy, boozy fruits, raisins. Taste is super boozy, oak, pear, booze. Palate is dry, med bodied with good carbonation. Meh.

Sampled from a 750ml bottle at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Poured an unfiltered golden with a cream top and a decent amount of lacing. Taste of alcohol, perfume, white wine grapes, and slightly tart. Average carbonation, medium body. Overall the barrel flavors are barely even noticeable limiting the complexity of what this brew should have been.

this my friend gets 2 thumbs up Pours a cloudy gold with a slight, creamy white head. Pungent aroma of white wine, fruits and oak. Flavor is quite sweet with prominent alcohol/wine notes. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. A bit herbal. Finishes sweet with lingering chardonnay notes. Very, very good.

Cloudy orange pour with big lasting white head. Sticky lacing. Aroma is strong over ripe fruits, white wine, and sweet bready malt. Taste is peach, white wine, dough, yeast, wood, and earth. Dry finish. Layers of flavor. Really good.

Bottle at craft ale house. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. The aroma has a lot of white wine notes , tart juice. The taste has a big sweet orange with a big oaky taste. Not bad.

Finally a Nebraska tick! Bottle thanks to Beerman6686. Nose is full of peppery, spicy phenols. A faint crackery malt aroma. pours with a large, rocky, white head; hazy yellow in color. Taste is a wonderful compliment of spice, pepper, perfume, and a slight tartness. I don’t think I would have picked out any barrel character if not told it was there. There is an underlying slight grape like quality to the beer though, but might just be my head messing with me. Finish is dry and crisp. Quenching. Some moderate ear warming from alcohol, but always smooth, never hot. A dang nice gold ale.

Tap. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow body with a small frothy off-white head that retained as a thin covering. The nose is a mix of heavy sweet malt, lots of oak, Belgian yeast, and a big if alcohol. The flavor is more dominated by the barrel than the malts or yeast. Really heavy raw oak tannins grab you right up front. The oak faded to a dense and sweet maltiness, and finally a fruity Belgian yeasy laced finish. A bit of a blunt force weapon on the palate, very intense levels of flavors. The alcohol gets to be a bit warming, especially on the finish towards the end of the glass and as it approaches room temperature. Heavy on the tongue with a clingy sweet finish and fizzy active carbonation level. Interesting beer, but I think any more than this 10 oz portion would be a bit tiring to take down.
