3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Khyber Pass. Cloudy light orange gold pour that, though well carbonated, was presented with no head at all. Vinous light amber fruits. White peaches. Apricot fuzz. Clementines. Lots of vinous oaky Chardonnay notes figure strongly in here as well. The nose has the complexity of a good fresh white wine. Just enough spicy hops to keep any sweetness in check. The listed 11.3% ABV is almost ridiculously well hidden. Feels like a juicy orange Mimosa.

Lots of alcohol doesn’t dampen the experience of this full-flavored, winelike, oaky, sour fruit-laden, dry and delectable belgian.

(bottle - 750 ml) Cloudy orange with a fluffy white head. Lightly sweet and spicy aroma with light wood notes. Flavor is sweet and fruity at the start with a dry and spicy middle and a very pronounced grape and wood note at the end.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
First Nebraska beer of the night. Not sure what to expect. Aroma just barely hints at being sour but there is no sour present in the flavor. Fruity, with coconut and oak, and a nice belgian golden underneath. Very good brew, if a little overpriced. Super smooth like the others."

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from a 750 mL bottle with a date of 03/01/2014.
Aroma is a nice blend of fruit esters and oak character. Moderate stone fruit with some light tropical fruit that works well with some drier white wine notes and oak tannins. Hints of alcohol spice along with some light phenolic notes of coriander.
Pours a cloudy, pale golden color with a big, thick white head that shows pretty decent retention. Fairly high lacing with moderate legs.
Flavor is moderately sweet with some light caramel malt notes and some bread. Quite a bit of stone fruit character with some tropical fruit notes as well. Nice chardonnay addition that adds a drier fruit character. Medium light oak notes with light oak tannins and light alcohol spice.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall, I am not a huge fan of the base beer but it works well with the wine barrel character. A sweet beer with a drying barrel and wine character.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy straw color with a decent sized head that laces fairly well. Aroma is huge, yeasty bread with tons of fruit, pear, tart green apple, white/green grapes, sweet orange, almost more like oj than the whole fruit, a bit of spice, and a ton of white wine on the finish. Taste is extremely different from most beers I’ve had. Notes of oj, pear, green grape, very tart green apple all up front, the middle turns to that strong white wine tanginess, then the finish comes in perfectly balanced with an odd peppery note with yeast, bread, and biscuit with a great oak finish. Crazy good beer, slightly pricey but worth it for a good occasion or to share with a friend who also rates, a much different mix of aromas and flavors than anything I have had.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Transfer from BA review on 10-11-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a hazy golden orange colored brew with a one finger white head. The head has a good level of retention giving way to a nice level of lacing.
Smell – The smell was big of lighter fruits and yeast ; with the fruit being of a sweeter orange, grape and pear nature. Mixed with these aromas were some lighter bready notes and an oaky and spicy aroma. Overall the aroma was quite pleasant.
Taste – The taste starts out with a good biscuit base with a good presence of a grapey wine like flavor. As the taste advances yeasty flavors come to the tongue with flavors of citrus and pear coming to the tongue, with the grape all the while grow stronger in nature. This sweeter fruit flavors reach a maximum more toward the middle of the taste, with it at the end declining a bit. The main reason for its decline was that other flavors of a spicy and oaky flavor start to come to the tongue. In the end a light boozy taste enter the profile and with the fruit, biscuit, oak and yeast flavors create a very pleasing taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the crisper side with it being moderately creamy, but yet with a prickly carbonation level. Very appropriate for a style and nice for the fruit flavors of the brew; overall giving a dry and crisp mouthfeel.
Overall – A very nice Belgian style ale. It has fantastic transitions in the taste, with all being very smooth and pleasing. While it is quite tasty, for the price it is a bit over-rated. If you can get it at an affordable price (under 25 dollars for a bottle) then I say go for it, but if not then your much better off going for something more time true and affordable in a Belgian.
