Melange a Trois begins with a wonderfully big Strong Belgian-Style Blonde Ale and moves into the extraordinary category through an additional 6 month French Oak Chardonnay Wine Barrel maturation. The essence of Chardonnay permeates while a subtle sweetness remains from the Ale itself. Oak tannins combine to create a fascinating mesh of dry, sweet, and wine-like character. One of our favorites!

Draft. Golden hazy pour with white foamy head. Nice Chardonnay oak and light tart aromas. Flavor doesnít exactly match, woody with some light vinous tones.

On draft at GABF 2012. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is sweet malt, huge wine and oak, big white grapes and a light tartness. Flavor is huge sweet malt, huge vinous qualities, not very tart but big sweet malt and a strange yeast bringing it together. There is a lot going on in this one, but itís big and boozy with all kinds of tart and sweet.

750 ML bottle Hazy golden yellow orange color with a big white head that slowly fell to film. Decent lacing. Great nose. Bread, citrus zest, spice, apple, pear and oak. taste is pretty much the same but added into this are notes of sourness and buttery Chardonnay. Still quite crisp though. Mouthfeel is fine but a bit too long on the barrel and too much butter came into this from the wine. Very distracting and threw the beer out of balance. Still crisp and creamy though. Think I would have like this more with a different barrel. Got a lot of buttery notes and found it distracting. Good take though

On tap at GTMW. Poured cloudy light peach with a nice off-white head. The aroma was sweet with white grapes and bready notes leading.. a touch of tart berry toward the back.. soft-ish overall and very well balanced. The flavor found a primarily bready base, with tart vinous notes, black pepper, oak, and a touch of vinegar around.. balance was spot-on. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. tangy, warm, and engaging.. loved it!

Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow with a large foamy white head that slowly dissispates with decent lacing. Aroma is yeasty, fruity and malty with notes of white grape and orange peel. Flavor is about the same, quite sweet with some citric astringency. Not bad at all. ABV is well hidden throughout.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden / blond with a medium white head. Aroma of biscuits, white wine, brett, and oak. Flavour begins with lychee-like light fruits, transitioning to the chardonnay white wine, and then some yeast notes on the finish. The ABV is well-concealed at first, though burns at the end the more you drink. Not my idea of the best white wine incorporated BA beer. Quite thin, boozy and very carbonated. Still, solid stuff.

Bottle, 08/21/2012. Pours hazy orange, cider-like, dense thin head, curtains of lace. Aroma of pineapple, pear, apple, light spices and herbs, oak and chardonnay notes. Taste has big chardonnay quality, apple and mild sweet malts, spices, dry bitter finish with a touch of heat. Medium body. Nicely done.

In short: A Belgian blond ale with a very strong woody white-wine character cider notes. Interesting even if not really my thing
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed approximately one year after purchase
The look: Clear golden blonde body topped by a small white head leaving lots of lacings on the glass. Last glass of the bottle was cloudy
In long: Nose has plenty of woody white wine with notes of apples. Here you donít simply smell Chardonnay Wine Barrels, the beer downright smells like a very oaky glass of white wine. Taste is a little pure white-wine than the nose hinted on. Lots of oak, medium tannic, some dry white-wine, lots of apples and apple skin (dry cider sensation), a woody spiciness. Overall I thought this beer had a little too much chardonnay and cider flavors to it. For many this beer can be a exquisite treat, but for someone like me who doesnít like white-wine to start with, this beer was not all that good. I may regret buying this beer but donít ask me if Iím bitter, because Iím not, or maybe I am, I donít know, Iíve never tasted myself, youíre a freak.

Bottle shared by Darrell. Hooray beer! The beer appearsa hazy golden yellow hue with a quarter inch of white head. The aroma offers citrus, wine barrels, white grapes, floral notes. The flavor brings grapes and white wine. The oak character is there, but light. Alcohol content is disguised very well. hard to believe this is 10% abv, other than just the slightest warming sensation in the finish. Overall, a really solid beer.
