Melange a Trois begins with a wonderfully big Strong Belgian-Style Blonde Ale and moves into the extraordinary category through an additional 6 month French Oak Chardonnay Wine Barrel maturation. The essence of Chardonnay permeates while a subtle sweetness remains from the Ale itself. Oak tannins combine to create a fascinating mesh of dry, sweet, and wine-like character. One of our favorites!

Light golden orange color. Finger of white head. Sweet citrus smell, with some notes of wine. Has a dry wine taste with a lot of carbonation. Some sweet citrus with a alcohol finish. Some yeastiness in the after. Overall not a great balance of flavors. The wine barrel character doesn't fit with this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ Steve’s Foco, picked up at the brewery. Pours a hazy, orangish golden appearance with a white head. Light Chardonnay, somewhat oaky, floral, stone fruit, apricot aroma. Slightly tart, mild barnyard, apricot, peach, light vanilla flavor with a dry, fruity finish. Solid.

Bottle from City Swiggers, UES. Pour is cloudy gold, moderate and lasting white head with a fair amount of lacing. Aroma is of chardonnay, oak, yeast, lemon peel. Taste is vinous with a definite chardonnay character, yeast, lemon, and oak. Def some light spice maybe peppercorn or clove. Medium body with a light sour oak finish. Overall a great mouthfeel and nice age. Probably could use another year to mellow.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is subtley spicy...sage and anise with some tropical fruits. Flavor is more yeasty/spicy...still fruity...notes of oak and white wine. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a fruity/winey dry oaky finish.

Hazy gold beer, good white head. Light very dry palate. Sweet sugary fruit salad sweets. But it’s hard to swallow as the beer is so chalky dry. Finishes frothy and very dry with obvious alcohol. A bit of a mess.

Draft. Golden hazy pour with white foamy head. Nice Chardonnay oak and light tart aromas. Flavor doesn’t exactly match, woody with some light vinous tones.

On draft at GABF 2012. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is sweet malt, huge wine and oak, big white grapes and a light tartness. Flavor is huge sweet malt, huge vinous qualities, not very tart but big sweet malt and a strange yeast bringing it together. There is a lot going on in this one, but it’s big and boozy with all kinds of tart and sweet.

750 ML bottle Hazy golden yellow orange color with a big white head that slowly fell to film. Decent lacing. Great nose. Bread, citrus zest, spice, apple, pear and oak. taste is pretty much the same but added into this are notes of sourness and buttery Chardonnay. Still quite crisp though. Mouthfeel is fine but a bit too long on the barrel and too much butter came into this from the wine. Very distracting and threw the beer out of balance. Still crisp and creamy though. Think I would have like this more with a different barrel. Got a lot of buttery notes and found it distracting. Good take though

On tap at GTMW. Poured cloudy light peach with a nice off-white head. The aroma was sweet with white grapes and bready notes leading.. a touch of tart berry toward the back.. soft-ish overall and very well balanced. The flavor found a primarily bready base, with tart vinous notes, black pepper, oak, and a touch of vinegar around.. balance was spot-on. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. tangy, warm, and engaging.. loved it!
