Wick for Brains is our classic and painstakingly produced Fall Pumpkin Ale. Instead of simply using spice, we use real pumpkin which lends a sweetness and pumpkin flavor not found in many Pumpkin Ales. Wonderful pumpkin pie spice intertwined in an Amber Ale creates a pumpkin sensation which is elegantly crafted. Notes of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Ginger and Allspice blend perfectly in this seasonal Ale. There are many Pumpkin Ales out there crafted by some wonderful breweries – we feel that ours stands among them and in some cases – stands apart.

12 ounce can. Hazy orange gold color. Large dense creamy beige head. Slightly vegetal malt nose has all the obligatory pumpkin pie spices. The first sip is slightly tart and light in body. Spice notes seem more subdued. Bready, yeasty notes border on sour. Tasty, yet not quite distinctive. Another average pumpkin brew.

Tap. Pours lightly hazy orange, medium fizzy off white head, dissipates to minimal residual and lacing. Aroma is cinnamon, allspice, pumpkin. Flavor is medium plus sweet, minimal bitterness, a bit vegetal with plenty of pumpkin spice. Light body, low carbonation. Meh was likely coined as a way to effectively define this beer.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2016 Smells like pumpkin. Dark gold. More like a pumpkin soda. Light body. Tasted on Deliverance trip.

Can:   Amber in color, little head and lacing.   Soft spicy nose, a little citrusy.   Similar tongue.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish.   Solid example of the style.   Spices could stand to linger a bit longer tho.

Pours orange with a slight haze and a small off-white ring. Smells like pumpkin pie with a hint of alcohol. Taste is pumpkin, subtle crust, hints of spice. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Nebraska Wick for Brains finishes with a subtle lingering tanginess.

Pale orange. Mild spice and bubblegum pumpkin. Flavor is sweet pumkin with only mild spice. Sweet. Needs more spice to balance.

Well it has some pumpkin spices, some undercooked, or not cooked at all pumpkin tartness. It’s not bad, it is a perfectly acceptable beer for the time of year and style, but they could have stood apart.

Wick for Brains is the kind of pumpkin beer I can embrace. It’s a balanced, original approach to this oft-done seasonal variety. Amber-colored pour. It starts off with toasted malt and toasted pumpkin. The toasted malt has some graham cracker character while the toasted pumpkin tastes like, um, toasted pumkin. About midway through is when the spices become noticeable. Low-carbonation body but very smooth. Definitely a solid autumn beer.

A pretty solid pumpkin beer. The pumpkin character is outstanding, though the spicyness is a bit much. Tried courtesy of Andy in Omaha, 2015.
