Our version of the classic English-style Nut Brown Ale has a blend of 6 different malts and very little hop bitterness. The malts are nutty and sweeter tilting toward coffee, toffee, and caramel.

Can from Beer Store pours a rubyish color with practically no lace and clear around the edges. Not a thriller but it does have notes of plum and raisin (albeit more in the nose), caramel, oak and hop. The body is a little muted as it thins out, not ultra exciting but it doesn’t take from it being an intriguing ale with the dark fruits balancing out the lightly sweetened malts and subtlely bitter hops.

Can. Pours deep ruby with just a bit of brown in it, supports a fizzy medium head that’s tan. Nose fruity with darker malts, nuts, lightest hint of coffee. Light/watery body with nice mocha-gentle roast finish, very light acrid tang, light (but crisp and firm) bitterness, strong chocolate and nicely rounded nuttiness. Good malt forcefulness without pushing into Doppelbock territory, and doesn’t overdo the toffee. Subtle sweet red berry and grape in the back, dries out though. Somewhat standard, as these things go, but enjoying this more with volume – an easy choice to re-buy by the six count. [2016.03.21: 3.3]

On tap at The Bottle Shop London. Hazy brown colour lasting collar beige bubbles. A little sour some brown malt. It’s OK if a little one dimensional. Some milk chocolate flavour. Not much hop. OK fizzy condition.
