COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, full bodied Barley Wine with a wonderfully warming character from the malts & dark brown sugars. Held to the light, its burgundy color is fitting for a bigger beer that has aromatics that hint of the oak, the whiskey, the somewhat sweet nature, and molasses that makes this beer truly unique. Using Stranahan’s Whiskey barrels, we aged this beer for 6 months to impart a small amount of oak tannins and the whiskey character that combine to elevate this beer beyond its original entry into this world.

Courtesy of markwise. Pours out copper with tan head. The aroma is pure whiskey with thin veins of vanilla and oak. I guess there’s beer in here somewhere too. Hmm. Don’t smell any beer. OK. The taste is all barrel booze, just like the nose, with straight up fortified whiskey, some vanilla and modest levels of oak. They did put beer in the barrel, right?

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Dark red violet appearance with a reddish white head. Moderate whiskey, red fruity, malty, slightly boozy nose. Somewhat boozy, moderate whiskey, well carbonated, quite malty flavor with hints of red fruits. Pretty flavorful but I find it a little strong and boozy.

25.4 oz bottle. The last in the line-up (actually finished with a 09 Dark Lord) for my 5th consecutive Father’s Day/US Open barleywine tasting with my friend Dan, joined for the first time by my two daughters and the boyfriend. Cloudy brown with beige bubbles. Nose is caramel, vanilla and whiskey. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is candi and whiskey. Finishes with slightly burnt sugar and grass. Pretty simple for a barrel aged brew.

Bottle… Farewell to ibrew2or3… Pours clear and dark amber with a small, off-white head. The bouquet delivers raw oak, caramel, toffee and a nuance of fuzzy fruit. Medium to full-bodied with a sticky, fatty mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor is thin, but well-bittered and certainly high octane with lots of whiskey flavor. Boozy, watery finish. Bottle courtesy of markwise!

Thanks to boamr for this one in trade. Sampled at IBrew2or3’s going away party. Pours a caramel/ amber color with a white head. Nose is caramel, toffee, whiskey, vanilla, cherries, wood, brown sugar, and nice aromatic sweetness. Flavor is sweetness with bits of oak, caramel and toffee, vanilla, cherry, cherry pits, and a lovely balance. Medium-bodied and very enjoyable.

transparent red-nut brown, large cream bubbles. Bubblegum, ethanol, caramel malt, lots of heat in the finish. Yuck.

Pushes a little too hard on the whiskey pedal. Really, really sweet and tough to drink in any quantity, has some decent flavor but lackluster in comparison to some of the other beers sampled yesterday.

Thanks again Markwise. I don’t think the whiskey did this one justice, that being said, still well worth putting in my mouth.

750ml bottle. Pours a mostly clear deep amber with a reddish hue, small off white head left some decent lacing. Nose held faint herbal hops, caramel malts, some dry barrel character. Light wood tannins on the palate, pretty tasty and not overly heavy.
