COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

23 Jan 2016, bottle. Black. Nose is burnt malt, faintly acidic. Med body, creamy, and mildly fizzy. Dark, dark chocolate, brown sugar makes it sweet but there is still an overpowering burnt malt bitterness. Very nice!

Bottle shared @ Beer Temple. Pours an inky black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma has massive whisky notes, hints of caramel, booze, sweet molasses, licorice. Flavor is very sweet, boozy, loads of barrel notes and is not as thick as I’d expected it to be. Still an amazing mouthfeel, long sweet finish with great balance. Very nice stuff!

Tap at hops and pie. Clear dark reddish brown with a thick brown head that lasts in a ring and laces. Aroma is whiskey, roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla. Flavor is the same, sweet with a roasted end. Medium plus bodied, smooth with a dry roasty warm end.

McNeillR (2147) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 7, 2016
Thick black, lush lacing from a thin espressoy head. Nose is rich soft choc, roast and chalky toffee malt. Initial taste is a rich dark berry bitterness. Decent seep of carbonation and long mouthfeel. Finishes clean enough, telling boozy and lingers long rich whiskey. Odd marshmallow berry a bit later.

Bottle, Garvies
