3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big earthy, raisin, dried plum, resinous malt, chocolate, cocoa, toffee and oak. Appears a dark black with a nice lace. Taste is very very smooth with milk chocolate, chocolate syrup, malt syrup, vanilla and oak. Other notes of molasses, toffee, espresso beans, melted caramel, and sweet brandy liquor. Finish is very sweet, sugary chocolate, caramel and liquor booze (much like adult chocolate milk) with a touch of salted toffee. A rating.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Imperial Bottle Shop and Taproom in PDX. Seriously heavy choclate nose, some light alc. fumes. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Smooth rich cholate, some light berries, gets a bit metallic in mid and finish. Medium body. Great mild dark chocolate flavors. A bit thin for an imperial. Hides the alc. pretty well.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A beer named to cause wife envy. Sexy Betty went into my black book.
A: Severe blackness with a firm, foamy mocha head. Lacing.
N: Coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, oak, vanilla, ,caramel, char, burnt brown sugar, some cherry, raisin, and brandy.
T: Bitter, smokey, sweet. Remains interesting throughout.
M: Thick, oily, alcohol is hidden. Filling carbonation.
O: :Solid, fulfilling IRS. The barrel is used to enhance the beer instead of run roughshod over it. Complex, and yet easy to drink.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 750 ml bottle dated 09/23/2013.
Aroma is rich and sweet with lots of dark chocolate and some light roast. Faint oak notes. Lots of dark fruit and brandy character. Plums, raisins, prunes, figs and cherries with a hint of berries and some light oxidation. Hints of alcohol.
Pours black with dark brown highlights and a moderately sized, thick, light mocha head that slowly recedes. Light lacing and moderately sized legs.
Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderate chocolate and roast character with some hints of smoke. Medium light tobacco and leather character with some slight oxidation. Light oak notes with quite a bit of dark fruit, though less than in the aroma. Fruit is darker and less sweet than in the aroma as well. Plum, prune, berry and cherry with some moderate brandy character and some light alcohol spice. Moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a nice beer with a good aroma and a nice flavor. A much better beer than the regular Black Betty with the brandy barrels adding some nice dark fruit and light oak notes. The brandy cuts through the roast and astringency that I found in the regular version. A sweeter aroma as well.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Even though it’s slightly stronger than Black Betty, there is less of a boozy character in this one. The barreling is mellow but well integrated. Hints at fruit and oak and booze, but the roastiness of the stout and even the hops come through nicely. A hair under Black Betty...between 4.3 & 4.4, but due to the subtle nuances at play here, I’ll give it the higher nod. Supposed to be beer 5k, just a few hundred late :)"

Bottle shared at Crooked Stave, courtesy of Greg. Thanks man! Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and great lacing. Cocoa nibs, espresso, a touch of spice, dark fruity, and brown sugary aroma. Taste is is deep dark chocolate, espresso beans, toasted malt, slightly earthy, and dark fruity with a long-lasting chocolate finish. Thick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Really good stuff.

Black pour, a bit on the thin side for an imperial stout. Nice thick tan head. Smoked malt, char, chocolate nose. Maybe a hint of brandy in there too. Taste is nice. Roasted malts, bitter hops giving way to a nice boozy character, oak, brandy, just a touch sweet.
