Had this beer sitting for a while. This beer poured with a nice head and wonderful aroma. The mouth is smooth and creamy with a wonderful mix of coffee, vanilla, and almond.

bomber shared, poured almost black with minimal head. the aroma was pretty good. lots of deep roasted malt, lots of chocolate and cofffee touches, was just sitting there enjoying the aroma when i snapped to and said i must drink. the flavor is strong and bold. lots of chocolate and coffee mixed with this roasted malt made for a very good beer. alcohol hidden well so you dont get that boozy taste on the end.

Bottle drank at The Loft NYC. Pours black with a huge head. Aroma is deep boozy licorice, raisin, malt, chocolate. Flavor is similar deeply sweet , boozy, dusty, dark roast coffee bitter. Body is light but feel is both sticky and tannic dusty. Love it. So intoxicating in its richness.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled October 30, 2012.
Appearance: Opaque black in the glass, but it pours a clear mahogany, not very dark at all, with a thin tan head that quickly settles into a thin coating with a dense ring.
Aroma: Tobacco and chocolate come to mind with hints of coconut and bourbon. After a moment roasted malts appear, very enticing.
Taste: Tobacco, coconut and bourbon are strong, the finish is a bit watery with hints of bourbon. Hints of coffee underlay the barrel notes. The finish is bourbon.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a bit thin and lacking in malt backing. Too much barrel here, almost fantastic.

From bottle. Black pour with light tan head. Crisp scent of molasses, chocolate, and bourbon. Taste is sharply crisp, with a tobacco bite, strong bourbon, and coffee. Mouthfeel is lighter than Iíd prefer for the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is heavily malty (chocolate, cake, coffee, caramel, roasted grain), with notes of bourbon, vanilla, oak, pipe tobacco, hazelnut extract, berries, sherry.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Full body, creamy/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
A surprisingly nice rendition, primarily due to the rich and varied nose...this isnít just a dumb sugar-alcohol bomb, nor is the bourbon overplayed. All kinds of enticing aromas to draw you in. Unfortunately, itís not nearly as fun to drink, since itís about as sweet and boozy as you might expect from the 11%. Itís not as fatiguing as a vast amount of its competition, but I still could not drink very much of it. Very good stuff even though I will likely never buy it again.
