4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from craft ale house. Pours pitch black with no retained head and a lot of bubbles. The aroma hints at bourbon but is very understated. There is vanilla, marshmallow, toasted coconut, chocolate, coffee grinds. The taste has a lot of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, a lot of sweetness, and almost a hot chocolate finish. A delicious beer that I can only wish had a stronger palate.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Heavy toasted, molasses and a mix of dark and milk chocolate for the malt, moderate resin for the hops, light earth for the yeast, and faint soy sauce and vanilla in the background. Head is small, frothy turning wispy, tan with some slippery lacing and good legs and is almost fully diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes moderately bittersweet. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. A nicely balanced Imperial Stout with some stand alone aspects.

I had a couple of good brews tonight, but i won’t spend luch time rating them because of that brew. first glass of the night and by far the best. this was amazing, the balance between the barrel flavor and thr cchocolate and bitterness was close to perfect.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours real dark brown with beige head. Smells of chocolate oak and bourbon. Taste is like rich chocolate milk with a shot of bourbon in the background. A little more carbonation would have put this in my top 10 news but its excellent. Thanks mashmaster!

Had this once before, and quite liked this- this bottle i think had been aged and had lost abit of its fun gruesome edge .. . deep black .. mild headring, spots of small lacing .. . deep tar, burnt marmite, and decaffeinated roast .. . mouth is much milder on the aged bottle .. . all around, very solid, combimded my scores on both bottles .. . . Well, I’ll be waiting with bells on, you old… horse-bangin’ skank.

Samples at Total Wine beer tasting class. Aroma is of chocolate and stout, somewhat roasted. Thick, rich, chocolate, coffee, toffee, vanilla, with some bitterness to balance. Not for everyone; a relative hated it, but a friend and I loved it.
