2011 vintage. Aroma is fairly chocolate forward with a bit of a low roast note. Medium light coffee note with a hint of green pepper. Hint of alcohol spice. Hints of dark fruit. Pours black with a small, thin mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where it slowly disappears. No lacing and medium long legs. Flavor has moderately strong chocolate character with a hint of bitter chocolate. Medium light roast character with light coffee notes. Faint green pepper character with light dark fruit notes; plum and prunes. Light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency with medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty nice beer, but its better fresh when the coffee is brighter and the green pepper note hasn’t had a chance to develop. Nice chocolate notes with faint roast. Doesn’t finish too sweet.

Pours basically black with a small head & not much in the way of lacing.

The aroma is pretty sweet, it’s got a nice vanilla & bourbon character but seems much more dominated by dark fruit & raisin. The coffee is mild but very well integrated.

The flavor is far more bitter than the aroma lets on and has nice notes of espresso and bitter chocolate. It doesn’t leave the sweetness, the dark fruit, or the bourbon behind though.

Pretty good.

Nose is rather sweet - bourbon, oak, cane surp. Pours a solid black with quickly disapearing tan head and no lacing. The taste is malt, oak, bourbon, and bitter coffee. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, a Nice example of an imperial stout. Would drink again.

4/6/2014. 22 oz. bottle. pours black with a tan head that quickly disappears. Sweet bourbon aromas with roasted malt and hints of coffee. The flavors are sweet at first, then booze and the bitter finish set in. Nice balance, low to medium carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a near black cor with a small tan head on it. Nose has a lot of roasting on it, with just a hint of some dark fig in there. Taste is roasty and very chocolatey and super smooth. Very much like velvet. Yum

2012 bottle, cellared. Near-black with red tinge when held to light with moderate beige head. Aroma of leather, figs, and coffee. Flavors include dark fruits, with a touch of coffee and chocolate. Booze is slightly hidden, but you can certainly still pick up the heat. Great beer.

Hearty aromas of chocolate, coffee, and slight booze. Black with dark ruby highlights and a lasting khaki head. Mostly dry with a touch of raisiny sweetness, strong, redolent of port wine. Full bodied, chewy, moderately syrupy, thick and smooth, warming alcohol sensation, finishes quite clean especially considering the complexity.

Appearance: inky pour with a short ring of dark brown head, syrupy legs. Aroma: licorice, dark chocolate, soy sauce, coffee grounds. Taste: bitter chocolate, black licorice, soy sauce, bourbon, espresso. Finish: dry, bitter, syrupy, with a lingering unsweet molasses note. Notes: Not very good, compared to others in the style. Decidedly one-note level of bitterness, it could have used substantial smoothing and balance.
