Black Xantus is a rare bird and the first new release from Nectar Ales in Years. It is the First ever “big-beer” to be released under the Nectar Ales line. Barrel aged for 6 months in combination of Bourbon, retired Firestone Union and wine barrels and Infused with fair-trade, organic coffee from local roaster Jobella. Rich bourbon and coffee aromas greet the senses. Complex chocolate and tobacco flavors fill the palate. This beer displays a full-bodied mouth-feel and an overall balanced presentation. It would be a perfect pairing to rich chocolate desserts.

Great imperial stout. This beer has very strong notes of chocolate and coffee that offset the high alcohol content. This is a sipping beer that really comes into its own when enjoyed slowly because as the beer warms up the chocolate and coffee notes really jump out at you.

Pours opaque dark-chocolate brown with a thin but serviceable tan head. A bit of ruby-brown light peeps through at the bottom. Aroma almost defies description. Lessee - chocolate, roast coffee, smoky malt, hints of wine and molasses. Flavor has bold strokes of wine-soaked wood, smoky malt, chocolate, bitter woody hops, and molasses; sweetness nicely balances bitterness. This is one substantial beer, not for delicate palates! Texture is firm and viscous, if none too fizzy; it leaves a smoky mocha finish. The heck with traditional desserts - make this your dessert. (You may need to call a cab, though!)

Smooth cocoa aroma with some minor vanilla and roasty almond. Light tan head and very dark brown body. Dark roasted dry cocoa and sight warm vanilla and minor coffee notes. Smooth and creamy on the palate

My 900th rating! Rated 1-17-15 apt in friona texas. Pours a midnight black color with a thick creamy head. Complex aromas meet the senses of brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, fig, slight wood and slight smoke. Flavors bring chocolate, slight alcohol, brownie, slight wood, light coffee, slight vanilla, caramel. Medium to high sweetness. Mild alcoholic burn in the nose. The sweetness becomes slightly cloying at times. Overall I like the chocolate brownie like flavor overall. See you next year rate beer. To the home brew cave for me!

Bottle from the Bier Stein, Eugene. Pours a rich dark brown/black, little but of tan head. Nose roasty, oak, coffee, vanilla, just lovely. Body medium roasty, with coffee notes, slightly hot, but just a lovely beer all around, one of the best "shelfies" out there.

Poured from bomber into teku glass. At first this beer was fairly underwhelming, but it was entirely due to temperature. I'm not sure I've had a beer that has changed so much as it warmed. Once it did, it was a beautiful melange of flavors. Very subtle bourbon and wine barrel mixed to produce a slightly tart, intensely sweet booziness that was layered under licorice and chocolate. There was some major flavor depth here that had me finding new things on each sip. Decadent mouthfeel too that was thick and velvety (and a touch overcarbonated). Great stuff.

Bomber. Pours an oily pitch black with a medium sized tan/beige cream colored head. Aroma of bitter dark chocolate, light bourbon, coffee and roasted malts. Taste of bitter chocolate , coffee notes, bourbon and malt.

Black in the title delivers on the pour. A nice sting on the first taste without a boozie taste. A nice smooth finish for a high abv. Nice finish of chocolate.

Bomber - pours black with light creamy head. Nice well rounded aroma of roastiness, charcoal, licorice and dark chocolate. A mouthful is delicious, coating and complex. I taste espresso, dark coffee, hints of bourbon, anise and molasses. A slight booze flavor is present but subtle for a 11% ABV beer. Solid!
