COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Xantus is a rare bird and the first new release from Nectar Ales in Years. It is the First ever “big-beer” to be released under the Nectar Ales line. Barrel aged for 6 months in combination of Bourbon, retired Firestone Union and wine barrels and Infused with fair-trade, organic coffee from local roaster Jobella. Rich bourbon and coffee aromas greet the senses. Complex chocolate and tobacco flavors fill the palate. This beer displays a full-bodied mouth-feel and an overall balanced presentation. It would be a perfect pairing to rich chocolate desserts.

Picked up a bottle mostly based off of Firestone Walker’s rep, $15. Standard stout appearance, the first glass I poured had a head but each subsequent refill did not. Aroma was weird, peanuts, touch of whiskey (or bourbon), and astringent alcohol, not nice. The flavor was better, very subtle coffee notes, whiskey and a really cool peanut butter and chocolate combo. Overall I was pretty let down by this after loving FW barrel aged beers. Maybe this was an old bottle and the coffee has faded? edit: just checked the bottle and it is dated 08/30/12 so this was not an old bottle by any means bummer Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-17-2012 17:30:31

Tap at proof. Deep black pour tan head good collar of foam. Dark chocolate coffee and lots of fudge. Taste is super fudge and medium roast coffee. Definitely a good beer but a bit expensive at $12 for a glass.

Another typical take on the boubon barrel aged beer. Smoke char bourbon vanilla coconut. Coffee and bitter chocolate.

Samples at Total Wine beer tasting class. Aroma is of chocolate and stout, somewhat roasted. Thick, rich, chocolate, coffee, toffee, vanilla, with some bitterness to balance. Not for everyone; a relative hated it, but a friend and I loved it.

2011 vintage. Pours black and viscous with a tiny tan head that is gone in an eye blink. Aromas are cocoa, coffee, barrel, vanilla and licorice. Flavors are lovely coffee infused chocolate and vanilla tinged stout with a hint of wood, dash of smoke and a lingering raisin and licorice flavor. Palate is just a tad bit light, but develops nicely as this warms and ends up spot on. Overall, this is super solid and would satiate my Parabola fix when that lovely beer is not around.

Draft at Proof. Black pour with a creamy brown head. Rich chocolate, vanilla, barrel and coffee aroma. Thick chewy chocolate flavor profile with espresso, roasted malts, vanilla, coconut and barrel. Fantastic, non overbearing barrel character and hardly any booze. Goddamn tasty beverage.

Deep, rich chocolate and coffee notes. Black as the witch's heart. Definitely a proper session beer. Not too much bitterness, so has a good amount if drink ability for its style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a translucent brownish black on tap with little to no head or lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, hint of chocolate and vanilla. Taste is like a bourbon barrel Firestone Walker stout. Well damn.
