3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Picked up a bottle mostly based off of Firestone Walker’s rep, $15. Standard stout appearance, the first glass I poured had a head but each subsequent refill did not. Aroma was weird, peanuts, touch of whiskey (or bourbon), and astringent alcohol, not nice. The flavor was better, very subtle coffee notes, whiskey and a really cool peanut butter and chocolate combo. Overall I was pretty let down by this after loving FW barrel aged beers. Maybe this was an old bottle and the coffee has faded?
edit: just checked the bottle and it is dated 08/30/12 so this was not an old bottle by any means bummer

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Average appearance but excellent flavor and body. Flavor is nicely bittersweet with the bourbon, roast, and cocoa to perfectly compliment. Body has a round fullness yet enough carbonation to balance and boozy warmth to remind you of its power. Good stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A very good imperial stout. Pours a beautiful deep red-black with a thick tan head. Smells of vanilla, coco, malts. Taste is very creamy and boozy, with lots of vanilla, cinnamon, a bit of hops in the finish, and a whiskey-like booze in the after taste. Had on tap at Billcos.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from a bomber bottle purchased at Champanes,
this beer had a dark brown almost black pour and gave a small one finger or so off-white and light tan cover of bubbles, the bubbles receded quickly to a small island of bubbles and thin ring,
the nose had aromas of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, faint liquor in the background, roasted malt and molasses sweetness,
the flavors were big roasted malt and some grain, coffee, a little chocolate with faint liquor in the background,
the finish had a little roasted malt bitterness with a bit of astringency and a bit of warmth on the mouth, and molasses sweetness trailing,
the mouth feel was sort of thick, it was a little creamy and had soft to average carbonation,
the nose was not that big or exceptional, the flavor was bigger than the nose with a good bite of roasted malt, as I continued drinking the grit and malt astringency wore on my palate a bit,
the liquor notes from the barrel aging were pretty faint, hardly noticeable, it could be worse, but it was not over bearing, a good imperial stout but I was expecting a better drink.
