A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, smooth milk chocolate with nice alcohol. In mouth, a sweet chocolate with grassy resinous hops, molasses, licorice, loads if alcohol, apperitif like.

Dark tap with about a quarter inch of tan head. Slight coffee aroma but not much else. Sweet taste with heavy dark fruits and undertones of mocha and caramel. The taste reminds me of a sweet stout more than an imperial stout. They did a great job of hiding the 11% but missed on the Imperial Stout taste.

red-sepia, white head drops to ring. Nose is toast and burnt sugar, minor cardboard oxidation. Flavor is FUCKING SWEET, light berry and licorice masked by burnt sugar notes that go front-back, dusty cardboard in the dead, slick finish, some heat showing. Literally, I gagged on both sips. Confirmed this was the right beer. Took a third sip and gagged again.

Absolutely amazing! Moca, Moca, Moca! Sweet, rich, deliciousness. I dont even like coffee...not the smell, not the taste, but this was one of the most incredible taste experiences of my life.

Had high expectations for this but unfortunately was a little disappointed. Smells really good like a nice roasty coffee stout base with bourbon and a little funk, Im assuming from the wine. The only real problem I have with this beer is that the wine takes away from the delicious roasty coffee and bourbon that I love so much in stouts. I think this beer proved to me once again that wine barrels belong to wilds, sours and belgian style beers for my taste.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2014 Draft at Moriartys. Tulip. Pitch black pour with a solid off-white head that quickly reduced to almost nothing. Huge dark malts. Heady alcohol taste. Bourbon. Liquorice. Turkish coffee. The red wine barrels bring a slippery enveloping edge to the palate. All the notes are good, though it feels entirely due to the barrels and not the underlying beer.

Big aroma and taste full of coffee, bourbon, dark chocolate and hints of licorice. Not too sweet. Good stuff.

Bottle in the sun at Lords, Compton Upper, 2nd day of the test v Sri Lanka and celebrating a daddy century by Root, 13/06/14. Black with a good sized tan head. Nose is rich chocolate, dark fruit peel, roast malt, light spice trail. Taste comprises rich chocolate, dark toffee fudge, spice, molasses, light tar, dark fruits. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light boozey wash and a pinch more spice at the curtain call. Solid impy affair.

Tap from Lazy Dog. Pours a dark black with tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Taste of coffee and chocolate, but with subtle addition of some vanilla notes. Nice boozy finish.

A mostly smooth 1.5" medium khaki head with a frothy crown over a black body with minute crimson highlights, splotchy lace all around

Mellow, somewhat sweet red wine flirts with subtle spirit notes, graham cracker barrel, light coffee, fudgey dark chocolate, creamy vanilla, and subtle dark fruit hinting at tartness layered on a smooth, lightly textured, warming medium plus body with well restrained carbonation and spicy alcohol accents, the whiskey chocolate combo is amplified in the finish and residual followed by a faint burst of citrusy hop notes as the larger components fade out, well orchestrated, very approachable for the style

Great, inky appearance, great tap handle and labeling. Coffee, cocoa, roast, a little vanilla and pencil shavings in the aroma. Rich, bittersweet chocolate, nicely boozy, tootsie-pop sweetness, coffee acidity. Slick, syrupy mouth. Fine grained carbonation. Long dark-bitter coffee roast aftertaste. Only complaint was that the acidity of the beer became a bit sticky. On tap, Baby Proof, upstairs.
