Got at wine 101 in wf nc. Ok brown ale. Carmel taste is slightly to overpowering and give the beer a very sweet overall taste.

On tap at Firestone. Appearance: light brown color, clear, khaki head. Aroma: nutty, caramel, light floral. Palate: light body, dry finish, soft carbonation. Taste: sweet throughout. Overall, almost cloying sweetness. Not my brown.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2014 12 oz bottle dated 26 July 2012 served in a snifter. "Brewed and bottled by Nectar Ales" on the label.
Pours clear, deep mahogany in color, with a large and durable tan head and excellent lacing (1st sample had a fragile and small head).
Aroma; a mix of with caramel and toffee malts, with a hint of alcohol infused dark fruits and an off aroma that may indicate I left this in my refrigerator for too long.
Flavor: hmm, a buttery (diacetyl?) component that is not entirely bad. Medium and dark roasted malt base. I believe I can taste the hemp seeds too; at least there’s an unusual nutty-herbal note. Slightly sweet until the balanced finish. Mild malty-toffee aftertaste.
Feel: Very smooth, with excellent, soft medium carbonation.
O: perhaps not at its best but likely not to exceed very good.

Sweet, malty smell and malty taste. Taste isn’t very sweet and leaves something to be desired.

Oh it looks like a brown ale that could come from my ancestral home of the North of England, but I doubt my ancestors would have contemplated adding hemp to their beer... they make ropes out if that don’t they?
This beer is on the ruby side of brown with an off-white head that left sporadic spiderweb lace down the glass. A good niff of the aroma reveals something I wasn’t expecting or was pleased to find. It smells of hydrochloric acid and partially digested food, In short, like newly chucked vomit. Faintly sweet and vegetal with chlorophyll on caramel. Mercifully, it took me a few niffs and some sips to draw this conclusion. Fortunately, it wasn’t too late. This is a beer style that carries the hemp in a ’you’ll love it or hate it’ way. Equally fortunately, it does it fairly well. The finish is a balance of that brown ale nuttiness, the caramel and the green astringency of the hemp. It’s a beer of contrasts rather than harmony and worth trying at least once on that basis.
Is it worth trying twice? Not unless the next edition gives you some sort of dizzying high as well.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Humboldt Hemp Ale (Humboldt Brown) has a very thick, soapy, beige head, a straightforward brown appearance, with a bit of haze and some lacing left behind. The aroma is of overriding sweetness, medium-roasted barley malt, and it’s pungent. Taste is of those elements, with a nice, noticeable, but not harsh, hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and a tad slick, and Humboldt Hemp Ale finishes mostly dry, refreshing, and easy going. No alcohol detected. Also, I did not detect anything that I would associate with the hemp seeds. RJT

Bottle, unknown. Pours a medium cloudy brown, little to no tan head. Aroma rich and full, big, buttery and sickly sweet, brown sugar, candi sugar. Body lively and fluffy, finish slight and watery. Like this better on tap, bottle is pretty meh.
