COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Lovely rich texture. Tasty nutty finish with an enriching appeal. The hemp makes this a very filling beer.

Pours dark blackish-brown with a thin white head that disappears quickly. Nose is malty with cola notes. Taste is fairly sweet. Thin mouthfeel, vigorous carbonation. Good brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A little bit of nuttiness, a lot of bread and some caramel in this mediocre brown beer.

This is a friendly brown ale with plenty of sweet malt character and enough acidity to establish balance and keep the beer from being flabby. There is no balancing bitterness nor hop expression. There is some nice complexity.

JDBaker11058 (1359) - Maryland, USA - OCT 1, 2013
Appearance: clear medium-dark brown, with pretty ruby-amber highlights and a short, fizzy light tan head. Aroma: caramel, molasses, graham cracker, star anise, and a surprisingly herbal undertone whiffing around. Taste: slightly sweet, a little nutty, with caramel, brown sugar, and a bitter, herbal note as forecast by the aroma. Finish: smooth, yet slightly zingy, with lingering brown toast, nuts, basil, and anise. Notes: Didn’t really care for the herbal accents to this; guess I wasn’t a fan of the hemp addition. Palate was a little watery, and the typical brown ale flavors were overly subdued.

Deep brown with a ring of off khaki head. Nose is dry malts, nuts, caramel, lightly sweet. Easy palate, chewy malts, light nuttiness, caramel, and an easy finish

12oz bottle. Pours a dark chestnut brown color with a finger of foamy tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, roasted malt, and a hint of coffee. Taste of light caramel notes, weed, brown bread, and a nice roasted coffee aftertaste. Mouthfeel is on the thin watered down side. Decent brown ale.

Dark red pour. Very thin head. Thin mouth. Slightly sweet taste. Lots of grain. Long bitter finish. Clean overall. Lively carbonation.

Nice darker pour from a short stubby bottle. Choco malt aroma. Tries to be creamy but it goes into a bitter attitude soon after the session begins. Creamy malty, then bitter medicine. Yes, lots of personality in this brown ale. Could use a few manners. Not impressed, not sure what the hemp is sposed to do to this, can’t detect its effects.
