Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Brown in color with an off-white head. Some toasted malt, a little bit of roast, and a hint of coffee. There’s a bit of earth, mild fruit, and some slight grassiness. Sweet toffee on the palate with roasted malt, toast, and hints of chocolate and coffee. There is some earthy hops, a light bitterness, fruitiness on the finish.

Tap at the Natomas location. Pours brown with a creamy off-white head. Slight roast malt aroma. Med body/mild carb. It’s rather fruity with "brown" roasted malt, and there’s enough bitter to offset the sugar.

Musty, malty aroma of an American Brown Ale - maybe a bit light. Dark reddish copper color with a substantial beige head. Starts a bit sweet, followed by a leafy, dusty vegy taste. Don’t think there is any hop. All weed. Actually a bit ongoing sweet in the finish. Sort of coats the tongue. It is what it is.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black with light tan head. Nose of dark malt, hops, caramel and wood. Taste is also woody. A bit muted. Lots of dark malt and herbs. Good herbal feel to it.

clear dark brown, short lived fine beige head still manages to leave a bit of lace, sweet nutty chocolate aroma with earthy hops, well balanced malt flavor with nice chocolate and mild bitterness, a typical brown ale

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Sampled 4/21/10. Pours a clear dark brownish red color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate and herbal notes. The taste is chocolate, herbal notes, brown malts and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Tasty beer.

Bottle shared by Ryan and Felicia...thanks! Pours an amber color. Aroma has tons of caramel malt, with some vegetal and spice notes and light hops. Flavor is malty and very light on the hops. I got high when I drank this...yeah not really. Peace dudes and dudettes.
