Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Looks can be decieving. This dark beer didn't have much flavor. Almost taste like a domestic. Can't taste any hemp flavor. Slight earthy taste.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2007 Another pick up from Firestone Bar. A simple, good drinking beer. Nothing special just a nice easily put drank brew. The smell was a bit weak. The best thing about this ale was the drinkability. The weakest thing was prob. the smell and look, very simple on both parts. I could easily put back a bunch of these.

pours almost cola. Has a hint of chocolate and toasted nut. Almost a sun tea flavor. Poured very cold and had barely any head.

Pours a medium brown color with a copper red tone to it.The aroma is of a generic beer sent. The flavor is of a light sweet, bitter taste that was somewhat watered down. The body was rather thin with a bitter aftertaste.Overall average at best.

This is a ’good’ beer, wish they would have improved the flavor, instead of depending on hemp.

I bought this basically cuz of the hummingbird on the front. Very malty with a bad aftertaste. Maybe they used the wrong chronic to brew this crap.

Nothing really special about this beer, I only wanted to try it because it had hemp seed in it heh, even though I didnt taste any hint of it.....it wasn’t too bad, a little bitter malty taste to it, pretty smooth drinking, wouldn’t mind drinking this again though.

It’s about time to see a hemp ale in the grocery store. I really like the label I had. (different from the one pictured). I can actually taste a hemp flavor and it is yummy for my tummy. If only there really was THC that made you feel exceptionally warm and fuzzy inside!

5.99 6pk everyday at cork and bottle. the smell and taste of this really give me more of a brown ale feel. Really really lightly carbonated. Pours cool dark brown amber with hardly any head even if you pour it straight into the bottom of the glass. Malty nose, malty sweet front, not really any hop bite, watery mouth feel, drinkable i guess, but nothing too special.. bud is 4.99 a six pack, so I guess it’s worth the extra buck. I’d probably rather have it than newcastle, while we’re on the topic of brown ale. Is this style really called a "spice herb vegetable"? Is that how you say it? LOL

On tap @ Collins Pub, Seattle. Clear, dark red pour, short tan head which fades into a medium lace. Nose a shade skunky, but rich brown sugar and bitter chocolate malt comes in quickly and last through the finish. Hemp undertones, but not as prominent as in other Humboldt hemp ales. Slight woodiness to the aftertaste.
