COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

This beer poured a golden yellow color w/ good head and slight lacing. Malty and crisp w/ citrusy notes on the nose, and the same in the mouth. Good effervescence, and a light body complemented this beer. I like it.

Very dark brown pour with a small head the fades fast. Roasted, nutty aroma. Taste is sweet with oats and cereal, very interesting. The finish is clean. This brew is very nice. I like the aroma and flavors all the way through!

Sweet, malty smell and malty taste. Taste isn’t very sweet and leaves something to be desired.

Had from bottle - April 28, 2003
Pours a dark reddish brown with a slight head that lingers for a while. Aroma is quite malty with a bit o' hops. Taste is initially strong, but weakens quickly - almost zero aftertaste. Flavor is quite underwhelming without any stand-out tastes. An interesting gimmick, but nothing more.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, literally no head to speak of. Aroma was hops, maybe a touch of malt. Flavor was just like a brown ale, like said below. Not a bad beer, but nothing special either.

Drinkable, but not amazing - though by this point my judgement may have been impaired.

A little burnt toastish flavor going on in this malty syrupy dark brown (not black at all) beer. On draft at DiPiazza in Long Beach, CA

Not much flavor for a semi-dark beer. The flavors that are there are out of wack. Too malty with a strange caramel aftertaste.

Absolutely not the taste I thought I would get. It was lacking in taste. An amber color slightly malty. No hemp flavor at all. Maybe a slight earthiness.

ours a dark amber with about a finger of tan, rich, slowly dissipating head. Raisin notes in the nose. Soft mouthfeel with a sweet aftertaste. Some dark fruit and brown sugar is prominent. Actually better than I expected it to be.
