Bottled. Pours a rich garnet color with an ivory head. Caramel, chocolate, malt, and some licorice aromas. Rather thick mouth feel. Dry, dusty malt character with a slight hop bitterness. More chocolate and some fruit notes as well.

I smell a malty chocoately smell in this crystal clear dark red brew with a little bit of head. Its malty and slitly bitter a good combo. Has a touch of choc at the end with a bitter aftertaste. Not very too malty but there is sweetness in good moderation. Slightly full bodied a bit much for s red but crisp. A very good brew tho the body is a bit heavy but worth a buy and rebuy for sure.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark brown with a ruby hue. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel, toffee, dark fermented fruits and a little plum. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and caramel with some herbal hops and dark fruits. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. There is some sort of odd taste that I canít quite place. The only thing I can think of would be the hemp seeds. Try it if you find it.

A very nice ale. Iíd swear itís
made with coriander and not hemp.
(But then, Iím not sure what hemp tastes like.)
Anywho...a nice beer. Reminds me of Traquair House Jacobite Ale
except itís not quite as rich.
Warning: This stuff pours like homebrew. Watch out for the gunk in the
bottle...I wasnít prepared for that and now Iím drinking it! ;-)

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2008 This is one of the best beer’s I’ve ever had. IT keeps things simple, but the hemp flavor in the hopping process rounds out the flavor, and evens out any sharp edges that pop up in dark ales.
ON SECOND ANALYSIS: It’s not bad. It’s just not as great as I thought before. The hemp does give it a nice, non-hoppy bitter edge, which improves complexity. But other than that, not much else stands out on this beer.

From the tap to a 24oz. mug at the midtown Sacramento location. Cola brown color with a tan head. Aroma is mostly caramel and chocolate malts with some hop notes. Flavor includes sweet malts along with chocolate, nuts, and roasted flavors. Overall this is a very solid brown ale with a nice balance between sweet and roasted characters.

Poured from the 12 oz. Bottle. Color is typical for a brown ale, clear with a very thin head. Aroma is malty, slightly roasted. Flavour also has a roasted, chocolate character. Overall pretty decent brown.

On tap @ Petes in Sacramento. Served in a mug. The aroma is suprisingly hoppy. Colour is a nice Brown, clear with a red hue. Flavour is very pleasant. Nice roasty malty flavours that are very smooth. Finishes moderately dry. Mouth feel is full bodied with light Carbonation. Overall this is a great Brown that is just a little different than most in a good way!

4 ounce sample tasted at the Midtown Sacramento location. Rating is about a month old. Aroma is a bit metallic with some piney hop aromas present, too. There are some sweet hints present as well. I really like the hop aroma in this beer. Transparent amber body with a fair off-white head present. Nice chewy, nutty, crunchy maltiness is present. Finishes with just the right amount of dryness and a nice grassy, lightly spiced hop finish. A really solid brown ale.

12 ounce bottle shared by grant. Sweet, lightly fruity, light caramel aromas with perhaps a little spiciness present. Not much in the way of hops are present. Despite this, it is pretty aromatic. Attractive ruddy-amber transparent body with a small manilla head and nice lacing present. Roasty, nutty, husky, malty start. Some mild metallic notes come through. FInishes lightly sweet with some mild, metallic, spicy hops. Not too bad. Exceeds expectations.
