Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Reddish/brown color with a good off-whiter head. Malty aroma with a little pine. Flavor has more hops than I thought. A little acidity and a little roastiness/nuttiness. There’s a slight astringincey in the beer that isn’t quite so smooth, but it’s still easy to drink.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Slightly hazy copper pour with a large frothy head. More body than I was expecting. Unusual notes as well. Blood oranges. Plum pudding. Mulberries. Currants. Pomegranate. Caramel covered apples. Pleasant juicy flavors with a strong punch of spicy sweetness in the finish.

Appearance has a ruby red color supporting a fair head that slowly dissispates leaving spotty lace. Smell has a nice balance between sweet caramel malt and the floral hop aroma. Taste faulters a bit from the aroma in not having that full flavor balance. Mouthfeel is lighter than medium with good carbonation.

Aroma is slightly perfumed fruit and mild notes of sweetness and earthiness. The flavor is fruit, light citrus, malts, spices and a mix of tangy/bitter/mild tartness in the finish.

Bottle sample at the tasting. Thanks DSG. Clear copper-red with a small head and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel mats, bread and citric hops. Taste - starts with malty sweetness, bitter hoppy finish. Medium-body.

Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Clear amber. Aroma of slightly stale hops, piney, "green" and a bit fruity. Flavor hasd a bit of sweetish malt, caramel and a bitter hoppy finish, a bit stale. Medium-bodied.

Pour deep red to bronze. Nose has elements of burnt caramels, raisins, light flowery hops. Flavor is similar. Not a lot going on in this beer but the dryness is really there and keeps this drinkable.

Brownish color. Smells a little hoppy. Yes, some hops in the flavor but less than I was expecting according to the smell. Some hops attempt to build during the session but never quite gets there. Yes, overall not a bad beer. Some spice in there. Some sizzle. Generally a laid back almost hoppy beer. Just enough hops to let you know its malt backed by a medium low hop kick. As the session nears the end I think I detect a very mild hint of tartness in there.
