COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Tap at Lazy Dog. Pours a transparent amber with thin head. Aroma of malts and grasses. Taste of a nice blend of malts and hops.

actually as far as ambers go, this is probably one of the better and well balanced versions of the style.

Poured as a taster at local bottle shop. Pours a ruddy brown. Aromas of hops and caramel. Taste is dominated by malt flavors - brown sugar, caramel, and biscuit - just a touch of hops. A little out of balance, but this would be excellent with food.

Bottle at home. Nose was grass and citrus with a light caramel malt. Flavors were similar. The hops seemed faded out. I may have had an older bottle but I couldn’t locate a date. Overall it was decent it just seemed...boring. Not sure. Gonna give it another try in the future and re-rate.

12oz bottle. Thanks Lehr! Pours into a red cup like liquid. Delicious liquid. Aroma of caramel and citrus. Late dry finish.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice ruddy looking amber to brown color. There’s a nice looking one finger white foamy head that dies within less than a minute. There’s not much lacing at all. The smell had a nice toasted caramel malts to it and shows a decent bitter citrus hoppiness in the background. The taste was mainly sweet but still had a light bitterness helping to balance it. On the palate, this one sat at/about a medium in body. It was somewhat sessionable and had a decent carbonation running over my mouth and tongue. Overall, I say this was a good Amber ale worthy of having again.

Very malty, too much so, with a sweetness that doesn't pair well. It's too simple, like that damned car stereo you had that didn't even have the basic bass and treble knobs...but a single tone knob instead. Yeah, it's like that. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice tasting Ale with a bit of a floral bite at the very end of your sip. Would be better with more alcohol in it.
