Bottle, 5.2%. Slightly metallic aroma. Very dark brown colour, almost black. Nice creamy head. Quite bready flavour, slightly sweet. Not so roasted. Tastes as if it is a bit past BB date, but there is only a date, no year on the label.

NIce beer, dark and sweet taste but with alcoholic features and not boring. Very good foam and nice while drinking.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (6058) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 7, 2006
Dark caramel/burgundy colour. Huge lacing appears on top of the beige head. Fruity and sweet nose with highly floral aromatics. Blue grapes come across as an original dominant flavour. Cherry and light caramel back it all. Earthy and almost salty taste profile acts as a balancing lever between the gentle roastiness and the blue grapes fruitiness. Medium bodied, strongly malty, lightly earthy, powdery body. Fine example.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DonMagi (5598) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 20, 2006
Aroma gives heavily roasted near burnt malts but a bit of sweetness and soem hearbal goodness too. Taste is bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Very drinkable session beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 25, 2006
Impressions from the Gaststübe:
-Ample head sits over the opaque blackness.
-Roasted malt bitterness and molasses efficiently attract in both aroma and flavor profile.
-Huge malts and perfect carbonation make for a smashing body.
-Dark chocolate and nuts roam in this very fine schwarzbier.
-Not the most complex example, but it’s so rich and satisfying!
From the bottle at the brewery.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (7363) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAY 1, 2006
Very deep dark burgundy-chestnut beer with a medium beige head, rather persistent. Rather surprising estery-flowery nose (this is bottom fermenting beer, after all). Some sweet-bready-malty notes too, at least - but again in the finish... almond and banana? Dry, roasted grains, with a soft sweet underbuild. Bit of cacao, burnt grain hulks; acorn tips or something similar. And retronasal again some esters - remarkable. Not a lot of body, bit watery. Esters etc. made me expect a chewier texture. Interesting because it seems to make a link from Franconian Braun to Schwarzbier or even Porter. But it could stand some beefing up. Seems well attenuated, however.

Barrel Draught at the GBBF, Kensington Olympia 05/08/2004
Dark coloured and slightly rich on the palate with sour fruit aroma. Some dryness in a lasting malt finish.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 pivnizub (8046) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - JAN 29, 2006
Bottle: Dark ruby to darek amber coloured, thin, lasting beige foam; faint aromas of roast malt, coffee and liquorice, a bit cardboardy, too; demi-sec, malty, bitter (cacao) flavour, quite light bodied, "half-dry" malty finish with a light chocolatey bitterness. A well rounded, pleasant Schwarzbier..........
