50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear amber brown beer, off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, rye, a little chocolate. Flavour is sweet malty, nutty, ryebread, some creamy butter. Light bitter finish. Light to medium bodied. Nice tasty and easy drinking beer.

Alphadelic (2009) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 5, 2009
Deepish brown with hints of gold toward the edges when held to the light. A thin head. Very malty and sweet smelling. Something reminiscent of fish-tanks. There is a dusty porridge scent too. Pure wort, such slight hoppage they might as well have not bothered. Again, porridge strikes again. Big and smooth with a light prickle on the tongue. Quite strange and a bit laborious.

.5 liter bottle at Spuyten. Pours a deep dark woody amber almost brown with a nice head. Aroma is caramel malts, light toast, some slight dark chocolate nuttiness and some slight butterscotch diacetyll. Flavor is a bit more diacetyl, chocoalte malt, light roast a touch of bready yeastiness, and a nutty somewhat dry finish and a slight metallic hint in the end.

At Wildeman. Dark red with strong head. Roasty nose. Taste of roasted malt. Very smooth and well made. But also a bit bland, boring.

Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Nice pour, good lacing head, a bit more brown than black. Vegetal and sweet aroma. Some nuts. Quite clean. Some pine, raw wood, and syrup in the flavor.

Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil - medium ruby beer - thick, lasting head - very doughy aroma, with a bit of brown sugar and cherries - a bit of leafy character - bitter up front, followed by some bright fruity notes - fairly high sweetness - missing the roastiness I expect from the style - vanilla? - what’s that doing there? - I didn’t dislike it as much as others did, but it was still one of the low points of the day.

0.5L bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Deep amber/light brown beer. Aroma is herbal and a little bit chewy with a soft vienna-like sweetness. A bit crackery and fairly dry for this style. Less roasty and cocoaish compared to other versions of this style. LIngering caramelly sweetness.

Draught at Annafest, Forchheim. Probably dark amber, small head. Roasty caramelly nose. Medium dry with rounded mouthfeel. A bit fruity and cellary with caramelized sugar and salt in the finish.

Maria (10190) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUL 8, 2008
Dark brown with a huge, nice, white head. The aroma has light notes of roasted malt, caramel and hints of coffee. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of caramel, roasted malt, light coffee and a slightly dry citrus. It’s OK, but IMO not as convincing as the other nice beers from this brewer.

Grimy dark brown with a white head. Delicious grainy sour milk aroma. Taste is dark fruit, sweet malt, a little sourness, and a sharp, lasting bitter finish. Top beer. Loved it.
