A hazy brown beer with a beutiful light brown head. Both the aroma and flavor are sweet roasted with notes of hay. The flavor is too sweet for my liking.

Barrel, GBBF 2004. Brown/black, moderate off white head and fine condition. Gently roasted coffee and chocolate with hints of fruit in the nose, sweet in the mouth with more roast coffee notes that linger in the finish

Tap@GBBF04’. Pretty dissapointing. Quite light. Grainy, bready malts, lightly toasty, some caramel, quite dry, with a medium bitter finish, a little light.

More brown than black. Yeasty malt aroma, with some caramel, which caries through into the flavour. However, I found the flavours a bit dull and slightly sharp. Not much body, but us Brits generally expect dark beers to be a bit chewy when German ones often aren’t. Not bad but othing to get too excited about. Cask, GBBF 2004.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught - GBBF 2004. Lots of caramel and toffee in the aroma. Not as black as you would expect a Schwarz to be. Starts off full of sweet caramel like flavours but thins out in the aftertaste. OK though.

GBBF draught. Brown appearance. Big caramel aroma. Caramel flavour with interesting rancid bits. Vanilla. Nice bits. An enjoyable drink. Refreshing. Marmite and balsamic vinegar. Bananas. This gets better the more I drink it. Nice one.

Cask-conditioned (Gravity) at the Great British Beer Festival, Kensington Olympia, London. A nice dark lager with some odd buttery notes. Not bad really.

GBBF 2003, tap: Caramelly, syrup-like nose. Deep auburn color and a low tight head. Slow start, with a big sweet middle like brown sugar. Toffee tones too. Very late arriving hop bitterness that is spicy on the front of the tongue. Fairyl substantial body. Too sweet for me, but a quality beer all around.

GBBF 2003: Almond-marcipan nose, slightly sweet. Amber hazelnut brown color. Little Layer of a head. No carbonation. Almond taste - very intense like amaretto. Smooth, thin body, quick finish.
