This dark vienna-munich type beer has had extraordinary acceptance in international markets. Exports to the U.S. began in the early 80´s, and have since attained great success in Europe, Australia, Central and South America.

Amber color, decent head that lasts for a little while, but not long enough. The sweetness that is very slight gives the beer a balanced taste. I'm actually rather suprised that this beer is pleasent.

Nice amber color with a bubbly dark cream colored head. Aromas of nuts and cabbage. Interesting flavor, Tastes like Kentucky Whiskey in seltzer. Quite fizzy in feel. I like it in a strange way. Maybe its because I like JD. I have a temptation to pour over ice.

(12oz bottle) Pours a large, white frothy head and a pleasant brown-amber body. Nose of a sweet, tinny milk. Nice caramel and roasted malt flavour. Not much there... too thin... but better than anything else I've yet sampled from Mexico.

Bottle in Arivaca, Arizona. Nice happy hour brew - way better than wife's draft bud.

The Negra Modelo poured a reddish copper with an off-white head that quickly dissipated to a thin layer and had some lacing. The aroma is of slightly roasted malt with hints of caramel and chocolate and a little citrus. It had a pretty mild flavor with a medium body. The taste is nutty, caramel malts up front with a slight bitter / acidic finish. Overall, it's much better than the other Mexican beers I've had, but still a little "off" compared to a quality microbrew. It kind of reminds me of a Fat Tire.

Malt and Water seemingly blended poorly. All the malt in the aroma, all the water in the taste. Slightly below average, which makes it as good as any Mexican beer.

Probably my favorite of the commercially produced Mexican beers. I like the malt flavor and the slight hop bite.

Deep amber, small off white head. Steady carbonation. Sweet, chocolate soda like nose. Sweet, grainy malts, pleasantly refreshing, light bodied, hints of caramel, cereal, finishing with an apple like quality and funked up bitterness. Not too bad, better than I had remembered.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2004 My Rating Is For Fresh Bottle. Pours Rich Dark Amber. Malty With Dark Roasted Caramel And Some Chocolate Undertones. Head Varies By Freshness. A Little Hoppy Flavour. Sometimes A Bit Watery. Alcohol Content Is 6.0 {And A Bit Alcoholic In Flavour.} Enjoyable With Food. Richer Flavour Than Other Mexican Brews But Very Close To Dos Equis Amber In Flavour. Dos Equis Amber Has 4.8 Alcohol Content. Overall, Negra Modelo Can Be Enjoyed If It Is A FRESH Bottle. If It Is Not Fresh, It Has Flat~Low Carbonation, No Head, Blandish Taste...Still, Much Better Than Corona And Mainstream Beers Such As Coors, Budwiser, Miller, Busch, etc.
