This dark vienna-munich type beer has had extraordinary acceptance in international markets. Exports to the U.S. began in the early 80´s, and have since attained great success in Europe, Australia, Central and South America.

Negra Modelo is a tricky beer. It tastes similar to Budweiser (weak, lack of hops, quick finish, etc.) but it looks like a dark beer. Mexican Vienna style beers, interesting thought

I went into the sampling of Negra Modelo with mixed expectations as this is one of the first beers I sampled AFTER reading the reviews. I can’t say that I disagree with the fact that this beer throws you for a loop when you try it out because based upon the color alone you are expecting something with a little more kick to it. I enjoyed this beer with my food, but I would rather have had a Dos Equis to compliment my Mexican cuisine.

I agree with The Beer God- this is the best Mexican beer. However, thats like saying Chi-Chi’s is the best Mexican restaurant. INS should be more worried about the beer comming across the border.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2003 Best Mexican beer, hands down! Dark brown in color. Not very carbonated. Very refreshing on a hot afternoon. Even better with a lime in it. Goes perfect with home made fajitas! Very good.

Light malt aroma with tangy overtones...color a lightish cola hue with very light head. Flavor featured a light malt body in combination with barely detectable hops...carbonation is relatively high...the body is definitely thin for a darker brew...Finish is clean with just a trace of residual dryness. Overall, this has not nearly enough body for a darker brew, and the flavor profile had neither the firm malt bottom nor hoppy top to carry it. This actually tasted better when I dropped the lime wedge the barkeep gave me. Very average--and moreso given the imported price.

Not a bad dark beer. Pretty clean finish.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2008 Russett bown with a thin, fairly quickly dissappearing head. Aroma of metal, corn and faint malt. Tast is similar to Shiner Bock. All malt but nothing too distinctly Vienna about it. Very unappealingly fizzy. A thirst quencher.

A very interesting Mexican beer. Dark but kind of watery. I know people who love this stuff. To me it is just a lighter dark beer. If that makes any sense.
