Grainy, woody aroma with a slight sour note. Crystal clear dark amber/copper color with a surprisingly white head and active carbonation. Taste is very light compared to the appearance. Some light toast and a bit of wood and caramel with a very light cocoa flavor. There are some good earthy hops in there that add some more character. Very light bodied and a bit thin. Finishes light with some lingering toastiness. Easy to drink, good flavor and definitely a standout for Mexican beers.

Mörkröd med liten krona. Doftar svagt av karamell. Smaken tunn, någon maltsötma. Eftersmaken kort. Lite kolsyra. Tämligen menlös, hade dock inte förväntat mig annat.

Aroma is sweet malty caramels. Taste is the same and I almost get angry when I think about it. Pretty hard bitterness in the end.

Negra Modelo is a reddish-brown, thick foamy beer with exciting rich aroma of caramel. The taste is light, values set for water, but with good rich caramel malt to follow. Hop bitterness is very discrete and anonymous, but it has been common to all Mexican beer. Negra Modelo is more generous malted than the other of the country’s beer I have tasted, makes it a more malty profile leaning closer to the European vienna, and perhaps especially Czech dark lagers. Malt sweetness prevails in this easy to drink and thirst-quenching beer, and I think it tastes great. A pleasant surprise from Mexico.

On tap at Milagro’s in Redwood City, CA. Malty with a thin backbone. This actually isn’t as bad as a lot of other commercial beers.

355 ml bottle into glass. Malt nose, quite sweet. Pours Ruby red with solid white head. Light body, malty sweet. Cornflakes sweet. Finish is less sweet but still sweet. Actually goes really well with the Mexican food I’m eating. Not sure I would drink it otherwise.
