Aromas of caramel, subtle dark berries, coffee notes, and toast. Clear dark ruby/brown with minimal off-white head. Lightly sweet (cocoa and caramel flavors), with some hop bitterness, and savory elements. Light-medium body, little carbonation, and a short finish with some corny flavors lingering afterwards.

Free offer @ Beer Corner, Athens. Pours caramel-amber with small fizzy diminishing off-white head. Thin bodied, dry texture. Aromas and tastes of caramel, but not as strong, with bitter aftertaste and some hints of lemon from time to time. Problem is the aftertaste stays longer than I would want it to. Too artificial for my taste.

Not nearly as bad as expected, this pours brown with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and mild spice. Flavor is semisweet, with some malt and slight nastiness of commercial lager. I was pleasantly surprised and would have this again if needed.

Pours a clear dark brown from a bottle. Very nice caramel malt aroma and flavor, good classic beer. Glad to see it holds up from what I remember from years ago.

On tap. Pours deep clear amber, beige head. Aroma of sweet malty caramel. Taste of same. Boring. Mouthfeel is watery with low carb. Ugh.

Typically fizzy Mexican brew, probably inspired by German Schwarzbier at some distant time in the past. Lacks any real taste, mouthfeel unusual, what with all the carbonation. Original bottle, recognizable if bland label.

Mörkröd med liten krona. Doftar svagt av karamell. Smaken tunn, någon maltsötma. Eftersmaken kort. Lite kolsyra. Tämligen menlös, hade dock inte förväntat mig annat.

Aroma is sweet malty caramels. Taste is the same and I almost get angry when I think about it. Pretty hard bitterness in the end.

Negra Modelo is a reddish-brown, thick foamy beer with exciting rich aroma of caramel. The taste is light, values set for water, but with good rich caramel malt to follow. Hop bitterness is very discrete and anonymous, but it has been common to all Mexican beer. Negra Modelo is more generous malted than the other of the country’s beer I have tasted, makes it a more malty profile leaning closer to the European vienna, and perhaps especially Czech dark lagers. Malt sweetness prevails in this easy to drink and thirst-quenching beer, and I think it tastes great. A pleasant surprise from Mexico.
