Creamy black pour. Sweet and smooth with some nice hop character. Dry finish. Very good beer for the style.

Awesome colour. Black/tan as night with nothing getting through. Awesome nose with walnuts, ancient grains & fresh rain dew....not to mention the oatmeal and chocolate notes! Well rounded bitter entry with lots of dark cocao but also an off-note of burnt toast. Mid-palate brings sweep of sugary oatmeal, but its over-sweet. True oatmeal is enjoyed for its grain quality, and not for the muted-down sugar soup that many people enjoy. Carbonation is perfect and the finish full of malted barley.

(355ml bottle) Purchased at the BC Liquor Store on Cambie in Vancouver, BC. Pours a large, beige head with a deep ruby near opaque body. White floaties in the bottowm. Nose of molasses, roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is full and oily - coffee grounds, smoked malt, leather conditioner and berry seeds. Filling and rewarding... Mmmm!

Thanks to Oakes for the sample. Near pitch black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas of semi-sweet chocolate chips, cookie dough, and a bit of vanilla. Medium bodied with flavors of chocolate, both grainy and strongly roasted malts, and a touch of oatmeal-like smoothness. The drying finish is a nice tip of the hat to the dry stout tradition. Nothing is out of place here... it just needs to be cranked up a notch. Like Oakes mentions, it’s not quite on par with St. Ambroise, but it’s still pretty good.

Poured an earthy heavy loam with a creamy, root-beer like, head. Palate included roasted malt with definite oatmeal smoothness. This is the only oatmeal stout I’ve had; there’s certainly room for more oatmeal I would imagine. The dryness is great though, and it’s more full-bodied and tasty than guinness. Really would be a great breakfast beer.

solid oaty aroma, milk chocolate brown with absolutely no head, weak body, sweet and oaty with subtle hints of coffee

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2004 (Draft) Nice black color, needs a bigger head or a niro pour with lower carbonation rate roasty and molasses coming through. Needs more body for a stout. Decent flavor with a need for extra oatmeal for a more oily mouthfeel. Not bad.

Very dark brown, slightly hazy, dense tan cap. Rich chocolate and coffee roast aroma. Same flavour profile, with coffee dominating, and an ashy earthy element. Quite an assertively bitter finish. A very nice stout in my opinion. I didn’t find it watery at all.

341ml bottle pours almost black in color with a finger of light tan head that leaves some pretty nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains and chocolate with some mild hops. Taste is roasted barley with some chocolate malty sweetness and a dry hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with some decent carbonation leaving a slight tingle on the palate. This is a well done brew that is worthy of tasting, definitely recommended.
