SaintMatty (515), Tallinn, Estonia Aug 11, 2008 Cask (Market Porter,London) - Hazy amber/copper in colour. Chocolate and biscuity malt in the aroma. Chocolate in the taste with malt and light hops. cgarvieuk (2536), Edinburgh, Scotland Mar 28, 2008 Bottle at home .... Deep copper ... earthy malts...some roast smokey malts but quite sweet and fruity ... some hop in linger ... some pear tones Whelk (124), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England Feb 3, 2008 Bottle--quite old, so this isn’t necessarily indicative of the beer. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt and a touch of fruit. Flavors are mostly crystal malts and a bit of roasty, grainy character. Some light fruit and a bit of cardboard from the oxidization. All in all, fairly sweet, but smooth and inoffensive. leaparsons (4000), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Nov 20, 2007 Bottle. Dark russett brown with red and no head. Aromas are sweet toffee malts with earthy spicy hops. Flavours are sweet malts with Autumn fruit. Peppery hops with a dry finish. Reasonable. sm89walt (179), Norwich, Norfolk, England Oct 27, 2007 Cask - JDW, Canterbury. A dark amber/light brown beer with an average off-white head. Sweet all-round and not in a particularly good way. Caramel dominates this beer in its entirity and, for a bitter, it seriously lacks much in the hop department. Seems an odd amalgam of flavours that fail to come together on the tongue. It wasn’t terrible but it seemed unrefined.
