3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: A sharp and tart flowery blond beer with a distinctive bee pollen flavor. Unusual and drinkable semi-hoppy beer.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed fresh the day of purchase from a New-Hampshire specialized beer store.
The look: Almost clear dark blond body topped by a medium white head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is flowery, citrus fruits (oranges mainly) and various light color fruity esters. Very bright aroma. Taste is has an unusual malt backbone, rice cookies sensation, crisp crackers, white flour and some more standard pale malts. Then there is also an unusual hops profile, very floral (flower petals), strong bee pollen sensation, iced-tea, grapefruits, limon, pine cones. Prickly carbonation. Finish is a bit tart, some acidicy and only a mild bitterness. A bit too much residual sugars (refined white sugars) in the after-taste and that lowers my score. I never had a beer with such a distinctive bee pollen flavor before, a taste I’ve become familiar with because of the weird bio stuff the wife consumes. Currently listed on ratebeer as an APA, a 7.4% APA?!?!? Whatever… Not a great beer but after attempting drain pouring their Nut Brown Ale this this Solo Springer was like a gift from God, a God with limited divine powers and who is also a bit cheap.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from On the Vine, in Exeter, NH. Aroma was of piney and grapefruit hops with some pale malts. Taste of grapefruit/ citrus, malt and pine bitterness in the finish. The resin is a bit much for me as it warms but the redeeming quality is; it has large amounts of bready malt. Malt giving a nice medium body without being heavy. Overall this is a nice highly hopped APA.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a cloudy golden yellow color with a huge fluffy white head that persists forever and leaves lots of stickies on the way down. Smells of lemon, grapefruit., resin and pine. There’s a little bit of bready malt deep underneath to provide some illusion of balance. Lots of hop flavor but a hint on the harsh side. Lemony grapefruit dominate the flavor with an almost pith like flavor. Hints of bread and pine round out the flavor nicely. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a tart resinous mouthfeel. This is a nice hoppy beer, maybe a bit one dimensional, but flavorful and easy to drink.
