2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 StefanSD (1793) - Lakeside, California, USA - APR 1, 2012
500ml swing top from Trader Joes. Pours a translucent amber color with a small off-white head that has fair retention. The aroma is mild with biscuit malts and some light citrus tang. The flavor has some bread and biscuit elements and a bit of fruit, but it is basically watery and lacking in character. The palate is thin and unsatisfying with lively carbonation. Finishes short with some metal. Overall: Worth every penny of that $2.99 I spent for this and not a cent more. Bottle dated best before 4-10-13 and its scary to think what this might transform into on that date.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 ChainGangGuy (4116) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - MAR 25, 2012
500ml bottle - $3.99 at Trader Joe’s in Roswell, Georgia. B.B.E. 02/10/13 (drink up - there’s no way this’ll hold up that long).
Appearance: Pours out a clear, copper-toned body with a smallish, wispy, whitish head.
Smell: Lightly toasted biscuit tops with a razor thin edge of dry caramel, some apple and grape juice hints, and an astringent earthy something.
Taste: Light tastes of biscuits, toast, and caramel with just a little sweetness. Then, the flavors drop out further as a sip of water washes in. As with the nose, touches of apple and Juicy Juice grape juice. Low herbal tones, low bitterness. Drying at the end with a final accent of cheap fruity-flavored gum. Minus an extra twang here or there, it’s not too far removed from the taste of a Killian’s. Really.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Normally, I’d say my arch nemesis unclemattie (on RB) can drink a damn glass of rocks, but I thank him for his outstanding work in also pointing out it’s reminiscent of a Killian’s Irish Red, a thought I had clearing the bottle while waiting for a pizza delivery, though I disagree with his "very refreshing" take, as that little extra sly hint of ill-defined ick kinda killed it for me.
1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 bierbairn (8) - - MAR 24, 2012 does not count
This isn?t the worst slosh I?ve tasted, but it is close. It?s both sour and thick, with a little bit of sweetness. It comes in a dark brown bottle, but it tastes like a tin can.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Palidor19 (2724) - Brandon, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2012
Heavy on the flavor with a great emphasis on yeast and wheat favors. It has a strong bite at the end with a touch of cereal.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 nick76 (4073) - Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2012
The aroma is malty and grainy with yeast and a hint of nuts and fruit. The appearance is copper with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a really nice session beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclemattie (3704) - Georgia, USA - FEB 29, 2012
500mL swing-top bottle from TraderJoe’s, Roswell. BBE 02/10/13. Pours clear reddish amber color, light tan foam. Smells of sweet malt, earthy floral hops. Tastes like a sweet amber lager. Italian Killian’s Irish Red. Some toasted malts, caramel backbone, wooded bitterness, finishes very dry with a brown sugar character. Medium bodied, creamy texture. I assumed I was paying for a fancy bottle, the beer is not all that bad. Very refreshing. (3260). Happy Leap Day
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 dwyerpg (4067) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - FEB 23, 2012
A pretty malty aroma. This has a pretty malty but not too grassy flavor. A bit sweet but not sticky. Strange, not really that good.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Drjohnrock (288) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 29, 2012
Poured from 1 pint, .9 ounce/500ml bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s Cincinnati and tasted on January 28, 2012. Medium amber hue, small tan head that quickly diminished with little lacing, sweet malty aroma, somewhat creamy texture, sweet malty initial mouthfeel followed by bitterness with slight astringency, sweet but somewhat watery finish. WIsh the brewer would make this beer just a little better but still, not bad.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 dougdecinces (109) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - JAN 21, 2012
Bottle from Trader Joe’s. I was hoping the beer would be as good as the bottle, but I was sadly wrong. It poured beautifully enough. Crystal clear with a decent amount of head, but the aroma and flavors were both one-dimensional. Little to no hop flavor or aroma. Too much dark crystal malt gave this one a harsh aftertaste. This isn’t a bad beer, just all-around mediocre.
