Our winter stout offering is brewed with a hefty amount of two row barley, as well as Victory, Munich, and Carapils malt. We round it out with some lactose sugar and flaked oat for sweetness and body. While the hops in this beer certainly don’t play a central role, we balance all that malt with a good dose of East Kent Goldings, Fuggles, and Wilamette hops.

Bomber from Capones. Turbid dark black pour with nose of roasty dark maltt, lactosy sugars, dry cacao. Tastes rich, with roasty dark/choc malt, oaty lactosy hints, and a rich complex finish. This one IMHO is better than the more acclaimed Lancaster variety.

Aroma: It has a sweet chocolate malt aroma, with some underlying roasted malts
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a lasting brown head and some fairly heavy lacing
Flavor: The flavor is sweet up-front, milk chocolate, with some roast and a good bit of smoke
Palate: The body is medium-full, with a clean feel, soft carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: I found this one pretty tasty. There’s a late smokiness that comes in (surprised me) and provides a really nice balance to the sweet and malty start to the beer. I would definitely drink this again.

Transfer from BA review on 3-16-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Served a deep brown nearly black colored brew with a one finger tan head. The head has a decent level of retention fading over time to leave a lighter level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of roasted malt, espresso and a load of smoke. Mixed with this are aromas of some caramel and milk chocolate with a bit of a bitter earthy aroma as well. Taste – The taste begins with a roasted coffee and malt flavor sweetened by some lactose milk and vanilla sweetness. As the flavor advances further flavors of caramel come to the tongue., with the vanilla and mild flavors getting even stronger. A light cocoa flavor also comes to the tongue at this point making the flavor rather sweet. More toward the end however a more bitter burnt coffee, char and a smoky flavor come to the tongue. With some flavors of a more earthy hop also coming to the tongue toward the end, the flavor that is left on the tongue is one of a big smoky roasted and burnt bitter coffee. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker to just about average side with a carbonation level that is rather low. The lower carbonation is good for the roasted flavors of the brew, although it accentuates the bitter, smoky and char flavors a bit too much, making them almost overpowering. Overall – This is an upfront sweeter brew that becomes one smoky and roasty beer; almost to the point where it is a bit too much for me. If you want something with quite a flavor swing from rather sweet to rather smoky and roasty then this may be for you, but when unexpected (for a milk stout, with the smokiness at least) it caught me a bit off guard.

Dark beer with a fluffy tan head. Nose of milk chocolate, lactose and cereal grains. Very sweet stout with lots of lactose, brown sugar, milk chocolate, sweetened coffee, even some chocolate ice cream notes. Very easy drinking stout, especially if you like them sweet.

Pours a very dark brown with a very slight cream colored head which disappears quickly. Aroma is feint, slight sweetness, small aroma of chocolatey coffee. Taste is chocolate, toffee, taste does not sit on the tongue but slides down the palette and ends with noticeable carbonation and sweet coffee grounds. Quite pleasant and though a bit thin the carbing seems to fill out the body somehow.

Bomber. Nose is sweet with smooth and chocolaty roast, a touch of licorice underneath, fainter vanilla and scorched caramel. Pours black with light brown sticking out on the margin, a dense and rocky light brown head. Taste is very sweet and smooth with a rich roast and great coffee/chocolate base, lighter caramel with a loving caress of alcohol, from the mouth down into the chest. Light body is again very smooth and sultry, though nearly watery, with light red berry and vanilla accents. Clean and spot-hitting, just a touch of oily slickness, very faint burnt caramel and grainy lactose in the bg (ugh on the teeth). Just have to go slow for want of a drought.

Undated bottle.
Appearance: The body is an opaque black with a dense khaki head perched on top with great retention.
Aroma: A little creamer sweetness is noted along with sweet milk chocolate and a bit of cracker. The aroma is light and slightly sweet.
Taste: This is a nicely balanced milk stout with a subtle creamer sweetness and a noticeable chocolate presence. I get hints of licorice on the finish but it doesn’t bother me much, at least not with a few sips.
Palate: Full-bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall: This is near being a great milk stout, but then I remember that Left Hand’s exists and it’s much cheaper per ounce. Sorry guys, but if you’re going to brew a milk stout it’s got to be on par with Left Hand’s or bust.
