Cask; Regular. Also due to be released bottle conditioned.
NOTE: Not to be confused with the entirely different 5.2% bottled Augustinian Ale which is almost exclusively exported to the United States.
A wonderfully smooth drinking premium beer, with a hint of crystal malt. The late addition of Styrian Goldings in the boil lends the beer a continental flavour. Originally brewed to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the founding of the Augustinian priory in Clare, the original home of Nethergate.

On cask at Mr Grundy’s Derby - Now under the tag "Growler Augustinian" - Copper coloured body with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with some hoppy notes. Fruity malty caramel flavour with a hoppy undertone. Has a sweetish malty and fruity caramel finish. Not bad.

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2014 Cask @ Bedford Arms, Bedford. Copper/tan with a fair bit of head. Faint aroma of honey and citrus with a trace of undefinable grain. Taste is sour/bitter with an astringent bitter aftertaste. Passable but not all that exciting.

Cask @ The Willow Walk. The pour’s a deep amber color with a small head. The nose is standard caramel, light twig, some hints of red berry. The taste is much the same. Bubblegum sweetness, strong caramel, a bit of toasted tobacco leaf. Dry finish. Light body, soft carbonation. Overall, a really boring beer. There’s no margin for error with bitters. This misses the mark!

Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2005. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear dark amber in colour with a thin white head. Short spicy notes in the nose and a thin resiny texture to the mouthfeel. Poor lacing. Pale malts give a shortbread base with tart redcurrant fruit. Spicy hop resins give a strong herbal flavour to the long aftertaste. Finish is dry and woody with rich vinous notes. A decent session bitter.
