COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottle conditioned; Regular.
A new golden beer from Nethergate, drinking more like a best bitter than its strength suggests. The fruity and spicy overtones are noticeable from the start on the nose and palate, whilst at the end the the sweet, soft orange notes return, resulting in a complete, well-rounded finish.

Cask at The Columbia Press (JDW), Watford on 20 Oct. Poured a hazy, mid golden, with a rocky white head. Aroma of berries, flat malt and mild funk. Esters in the flavour, with some grape and melon fruitiness. Finish was fruity, with straw and chalky notes. Possibly none too fresh.

Cask at the moon under water Watford JDW. Golden colour thin white film. Almost no aroma, maybe some earthy straw, flavour is stale wheaty malts, some orange, and sweet grains. Medium body! Chalky carbonation and bitty. Boring dull beer.

On cask at Dead Poets Inn, Holbrook. Another golden ale, better than the average ones though. Its appearance is deceptive and it tastes more of a best bitter. Some toffee in there.

Bottle. Blonde with a steady, but thin white head and bubbles. A light malt nose with fresh citrus, a little tangerine and lime. Spicy on the tongue but not overly so and opens up into fruits - tangerine, kumquat and a nice warm maltiness. Really drinkable with a sweet soft finish.

500ml bottle: poured at home into an Abbot Ale glass tankard three weeks after its best before date. Looks are clean and clear: light amber with a full head of white bubbles on top. Mild malty nose: with a fruity hint here and there. The taste is a pleasant enough mixed bag of flavours with both the hops and the malts vieing with each other for supremacy: the malts winning the initial battle (slight caramel and biscuity) with the hops giving a good account of themselves in the finish where a bitterness comes into play. Not bad at all, better than I expected.
