Weak aroma. Looks good though, dark with a creamy-beige head. Light taste of roasted malt, slightly watery palate. Very drinkable as you’d expect from a mild. Decent overall.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in May 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear ruby red in colour with a thin buff head. Roast malt and then sweet winegums in the short aroma. Thin watery mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give sweet fruit flavours of redcurrant and grape. A dry woody note present in the short bitter aftertaste. Finish is sweet with a strong vinous edge. An ok session mild.

Milky roast. Fairly solid, but the lacticity built up and detractoed from teh taste eventually. Pretty OK, I guess.

From cask. Pours deep amber and golden with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and slight fruity. Roasted malty and breadish flavoured. Bitter and dry. Roasted and hoppy. Bitter and yet malty finish. Ends dry and bitter.

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 8 Aug 2010) Dark ruby colour with brief, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, dark fruit and prunes. Malty, toasty taste with caramel, dark fruit, raisins and a slightly bittersweet finish. Below medium body, fairly sweet. Nice and tasty.

Hand pulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence (JDW) Hatch End. Amber/red with an off white head. A decent strong mild with roast malts and a touch of caramel. Dry and session able.

Cask conditioned, gravity dispense at The Lord Nelson Inn, Reedham, Norfolk. Reddy brown with white head. I had a big leafy tobacco note right away with this, then a sweetish chocolate, toffee flavour. Vanilla in the close, smooth but flawed.

sm89walt (1838) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 18, 2010
Cask - West Gate Inn (JDW), Canterbury. Poured a dark ruby with a medium size frothy, lacing tan head. Toasty malts, some yeast/bread and subtle choc on the nose. Good dark fruits, a roasty malt bitterness and hints of coffee. Softish palate with a touch of carb sting and a lingering finish. Nethergate know how to put together a decent mild.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Dark chestnut brown with a ruby glow and tight cream head; rich malty aroma; smooth malt flavour with a hint of smoke; dry and fruity finish with a touch of pepper. Nice.
