kidmartinek (707), austin, Texas, USA May 5, 2008 Dark, plain brown liquid pour. Then a 1 inch thick, tan head develops. Aroma is of alcohol, sweet malt, and a little nut. Taste is very malty, dark sugars, and a tinge of hops. Texture is like milk. Average lacing. Pleasant finish that’s light enought not to weigh you down.
OSLO (606), Minnesota, USA Aug 16, 2008 [Bottle] Pours dark cola brown with a really light tan head. Aroma is a little odd, and quite sweet--brown sugar and some raisin is in there. Taste is dominated by deep roasted malt, which is a little harsh. This did get better the longer I drank it though, and there was also a little bit of raisin and sweetness in here as well, but it was more subdued. Medium-thin mouthfeel and quite smooth. At first I found this to be pretty bad, but the longer I drank it the more drinkable I thought it became. I will have to re-rate when I try this in a non-tasting setting. cluny6 (61), Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Aug 14, 2008 Black with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and dried fruit. Roasty taste and very fruity. few hops. Ok but not great. B Beershine (1207), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2008 Pitch black, lots of tiny bubbles, decent tan head. Malty, prune aroma. Also fig newtons, mincemeat pie, raisin, date, walnut, oatmeal raisin cookie or health cookie, dark bread, and spice. Quaffable, velvety mouthfeel and texture but not thick. Solid balance of flavors include molasses, rum-raisin, sweetness rounding off to clean dry malty finish. Ends quaff-friendly for session potential. Nice malts with lots of dark caramel and toffee flavors and a kiss of licorice. jcdsmack (30), Henderson, Nevada, USA Aug 6, 2008 Pours black with a ruby tone when held to light thick tan head aroas of chocolate and coffee with fruity hops good lacing nice thick mouthfeel toffee flavors of malt slight roast bitterenss not much hop flavor or bitterness but tipical of the style a good example of a classic british porter. oh6gdx (5700), Vaasa, Finland Aug 5, 2008 Bottled.
