Clear amber brown beer. Light cream coloured head. Softish light palate. Nicely balanced soft malt and reasonable hop presence. A decent bitter but doesn’t quite escape the shackles of English Bitter Blandness syndrome!

SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JUL 24, 2010
JDW Spring Fest 2010, Rochester. Best bitter with crystal malt giving an autumnal twang - slightly roasty, slightly twiggy and boggy. Crystal malt can be an awkward malt - used well it adds sweetness and some slight roasty chocolate notes, adding interest and flavour to a beer. Used too much and the beers taste damp and ugly and a little tannic and dry. This is more in the later camp.
