500 ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Clear deep ruby red colour; One-quarter finger head and soapy off white foam which last for about 20 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and very fizzy carbonation; Smell and taste of very light roasted malt, with nuts, toast, light caramel, honey, faint wet cardboard, light musty / mui choi (dry pickled Chinese mustard), light lemon and faint grass; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is thin, pretty low sweet Dunkel, like a good Cola. Roasty and caramel taste are low, with some nice toast and honey, but also slight bit of musty mui choi and faint wet paper. Kinda so-so… Hoppiness is very light grass nose, light lemon and grass taste, and low-fi but notable bitterness for a muted finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: This one is an easy and low-fi Dunkel - all the aroma and tastes kinda tuned down substantially. Very low sweetness (nice) but so are roastiness and caramel character. Easy going and quite quaffable, would be better if they amp it up. Okay for now.

P.S. Thanks for the bonus “Hits from The Bong” by Cypress Hill on my 420th review! :)

Erzengel (2396) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - DEC 6, 2013

Medium white head, no lacing. Dark red colour. Dominating malt aroma with some chocolate. In flavour also chocolate, nuts, with some hop grassiness. Thick body. Someway crisp. Overall: expected bad beer, but it suprises me. It’s okay, but nothing too special.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, nuts, toasted bread), lightly hoppy (herbs), with light notes of metal, honey, and grape juice. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation. Meh. Light and watery and a bit sour. It does have that honeyish-bready German malt character that almost makes me smile, but outside of that it’s pretty clumsy and thus hard to get enthused about. Barely even average.

Forgettable. Pours a nice amber color. Smells like smoky cigar and molasses. Taste however is pretty empty and bland. Nothing really to note about the flavor. Had in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 sept 2013, bottle. Brown, clear, no bubbles. Nose is yeasty bread. Med body and mildly fizzy. Tastes like organic wheat bread; doughy, Light raisins, maybe faint nuttiness. Nice. I don't typically like dunkles but this is pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cybercat (3225) - Georgia, USA - SEP 4, 2013
Had the organic version. Strong, crisp, malty aroma has a fruity underpinning. Pours a clear, bubbly caramel brown with a fairly thick, though not persistent, buff head. Malty, slightly fruity is pleasant if not complex or remarkable. Texture seems rather thin and lacks fizz. Average, but still potable. Good with a meal.

chinchill (1711) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 28, 2013
Poured clear amber brown with a weak head. Aroma had more sweet caramel malt than medium roast malt, but this is reversed in tasting. Lightly sweet flavor suggests dark bread baked with some brown sugar. Medium body with spot on carbonation.

Bottle. LIghtly hazed dull chestnut brown with a short-lived tan head. Malt-focused nose of caramel / toffee, yeast powder, filberts, almond butter, sour cola and potato starch with minute amounts of cooked cabbage and turnip (DMS). Light body with creamy and soft texture, a bit chalky / powdery from the yeast. Lacks flaws but is very basic, especially the nut and caramel syrup malt flavor. Low sweetness, medium to low acid, low bitterness.
