English label: Made only from natural mineral water, organic dark barley malt, organic whole hops, yeast, natural carbonation.

Whole Foods, Bowery 330ml ($3): Pours a light brown. almost amber color, with a creamy looking creme coloured head. Taste is slightly sweet. There be some caramel taste. Not very much in the way of hops. Nothing offensive, but nothing interesting in this dunkel. Well, at least it is organic, hehe.

From tap in a chinese restaurant in Nürnberg. I should have taken another beer. It pours brown reddish with almost no foam (off-white). It smells and tastes a bit cara malt, with a sweet creamy final but very light. No bitterness, no body, no backbone, no length... an non interesting beer in German beer world.

Aroma is malts and heavy toffee. The flavor is toffee, brown bread and a hint of tartness and bitterness in the finish.

Bottled at the Top of the Hops Festival, Charlottesville, 9/22/12. Organic version. Pours a clear copper color with a thin fizzy tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel, raisin and a dusty note. The taste is raisin, toffee, herbal hops, stone fruits. Medium bodied and a slight lingering bitterness. Nice.

Sample bottle for review. Kicks up a nice fizzy head. Deep brown, but pretty clean body. Smell has some of that agricultural graininess, with the usual dark German malts. Pretty fizzy on first taste. Dunkel graininess continues on the tongue. This has plenty of malt to cover up any hop note here, but it works just fine.
