3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a very nice beer. It has German microbrewery written all over it. This is not overly polished, refined, mass produced lager. This beer is a taste of how rough, unfiltered, cave-aged German lager used to be. Lammsbrau Dunkel is so close to the origin of its ingredients, you can almost taste past the malt, past the grain, and into the earth. Despite it’s filtered appearance, it has the unrefined qualities of Franconian Kellerbier, without any hop presence. It seems to me that unlike the larger German macro-dunkels, this beer achieves its dark color from specialty grain, and not from an extended boil period. Unfortunately served from a green bottle, but fortunately a fresh case, recently acquired not only from the retail location, but the distributor it came from. May not be the most amazing beer in the world, but an important one to try if you want to learn beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle (BioMarket, Tallinn)
6 Slightly sweet grainy aroma, not really jumping out of the glass.
4 Very deep red, small tight beige head.
6 Slightly eco-ey muddy grain taste. Leafy and undergrowthy. However, there’s also something almost chocolatey too it too.
4 Medium palate, has both sugary and watery components, crisp carbonation. Dry nuttiness and a pleasant roast after swallowing. A little bitter tingle too from the hops.
13 Let this sucker warm up, don’t drink straight from the fridge. The heavier flavours just won’t come through cold.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Green bottle (5%). Dark copper body, medium off-white head. Looks like some Viennas - I’m used to dunkels that are dark and thick. Light hoppy aroma with something... rural? Taste is dry and hoppy with some sweet caramel. Ends a bit spicy. Quite good, but I kept wishing it wasn’t so watery.

0.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Damnit, Danny. Medium brown pour with a small white head. Aroma is a chocolatey, skunky mess. The taste is the same. Like a skunk eating a Hershey’s bar in the middle of the road on a hot summer day. As he feasts on his trash-desert, an 18-wheeler makes him a lasting part of the smoldering pavement. It’s that gross.
