pforei (337), USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Copper color with good head that completely disappears. Nice bready/biscuity/caramel, cookie malt aroma. Taste is similar with slight herbal/grassy hop. Slight spice on the tongue towards the finish. There is a slight tease of citrus in the aftertste, but it never really comes.
DerWeg (450), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2008 Beautifully smooth and integrated DL - very clean yeast, crisp acidity but very little reidual bitterness. Very nice! beerguy101 (3542), Newark, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 This dunkel pours a medium amber brown color from a 33cl bottle. Small sized white foamy head.
The aroma is light caramel, touch of fruit, with some earthy hops. A light to medium bodied dunkel. The malts are caramel and a touch bready. The hops are a touch earthy. Lightly carbonated. Touch of spiciness and some smoke. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
bhensonb (3134), Woodland, California, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle as Organic Dunkel (from Ledgers). Medium mahogany color with a decent beige/tan head. Light, slightly roasted, caramel with peppermint? hop for aromas. Thin to medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is light caramel, not all that sweet, and there is a spicey/minty hop. Must be really interesting noble hop - can not recall this flavor from any other beer. Good nose while consuming. Finish is rather mild, goes a bit herbal, or might be earthy, but that nice hop touch hangs in. Reasonably dry. Not one of those sticky darks. What the Heineken and Becks dark lagers could be/should be. MaltDawg (376), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 6, 2008 11.2 oz green bottle. Clear copper with frothy tan head. Caramel malt aroma with spicey hop notes. Carmelized malts dominate flavor with moderate earthy hops. Light body with fairly dry finish. DA (2586), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 3, 2008 Pours brown, red hues, with a fast falling tan head. Faint skunked nose and finish. Bready flavors up front, caramel and milk chocolate. Finish has some earthy hops, lightly metallic. Reminds me of Becks Dark.
