1.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 mcdav2154 (436) - GERMANY - OCT 7, 2009
Dark brown in color with a thin tan head. Smells really sweet. Taste is definate honey, white sugar, and caramel. There’s no balance of bitterness which makes this a horrible drink. Way to sweet for my taste.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Quack-Duck (6811) - Down South, GERMANY - MAY 16, 2009
bottle from Kaufhalle des Ostens online shop. Deep dark brown, colour, mid-sized fluffy beige head. Sweet and malty with hints of sugar and honey, as well as a touch of toffee and caramel. Nearly no bitterness. A typical Malzbier.
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 Maria (9569) - Thisted, DENMARK - DEC 17, 2008
It is hazy, dark, red-brown with an OK head. The aroma has notes of malt, candy sugar and caramel. The flavour has a very strong sweetness, and notes of malt and candy sugar. It is cloyingly sweet.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 larsga (5325) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 19, 2007
Thin beige head appears briefly, then subsides into a thin ring. Nearly opaque dark black body, only admits some light at edges. Earthy sugary bready straw and caramel aroma with papery notes. Sweet roasty caramel licorice taste with straw notes. Faint bitterness in the aftertaste, and the roastiness becomes more pronounced. Sugary roastiness lingers. No real resistance in this beer; it’s kind of like a light porter wort. Not bad, though. (0.33l bottle from Ernst Bauer brewery outlet, Leipzig.)
