Tessic (439), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2009 This Ale poured a deep, dark red colour with a nice big light brown head. Nice lacing. To the nose there are scents of thick dark malt, molassass, caramel and roasted grain. Maybe a little chocolate? First taste was rich but had an almost watery base. Roasty malt flavour with hints of coffee, molassass and cocoa. The finish is burnt in flavout with a little hopp shining through. Palate starts off burnt and conintues through to a little tinge of bitter flavour. Very good, pretty rich. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2009 Bottle thanks to matt7215 via trade. Pours brown with red highlights. Small tan head that dissipates to a small ring quickly. Aroma is sweet and malty. Some chocolate, under ripe fruit. banana, and caramel. Tastes better than it smells. Roasted malt dominates this palate. Chocolate, caramel, nuts, a hint of spice, molasses, and a hint of ash. Nice bitterness, but mild enough to be sessionable. Decent mouth feel. Nice canned beer. Thanks Matt! Listigovers (96), Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2009 On tap. I liked it quite a lot. Mouthfeel was okay but the flavour was nice and the aroma was great. Colour, in the dim light, seemed pretty dark. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jun 22, 2009 Canned sample. Dark brown in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are quite malty and mild-roasty with elements of caramel, toasted pine nuts, and a hint of earthy hops. In the mouth the caramel evolves into a more toffee-like flavor, along with mild roasted coffee and toasted malt notes. The acidity of the toasted malt balances things out fairly well, although some hop bitterness is also in the mix. A well balanced brown ale. It would probably go well with all sorts of different food too. cfrancis (293), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2009 Dark brown colour, nose of malts and nuts. Taste is roasted malt and caramel. Very pleasant beer. Diogène (543), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 10, 2009 Can. Very dark brown orange with a thick creamy head. Goode retention and average lacing. Aroma is roasted grain, malt, nuts and hops, Flavor is malty with some metal, roasted malt, and hops. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 22, 2009 Can - 473ml. Dark brown body with average carbonation and a thin beige foamy/bubbly head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with roasty hints. Taste is well balanced, but it lacks strenght and complexity. Ends with a short bitter finish. Average Brown Ale. probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada May 16, 2009 473 ml can from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Dark brown with a fair tan head.
Aroma: Sumptuous chocolate and medium roasted coffee, nutty, a touch lactic, some green hops, toffee/caramel, maybe a bit of vanilla, plenty malty.
Palate: Medium body, soft and sparse carbonation, smooth.
Flav.: Similar to the nose, more lactic and less sweet/malty, still exhibits some nice chocolate and coffee, still nutty; dry with a little bitterness and a nice malty finish.
I quite enjoy this product. I should get an oil change more often!
