COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Awarded a Silver Medal in the Beer World Cup (English style brown ale) 2004, also a Silver Medal in the 2004 Canadian Awards and a Gold medal at the Mondial in Montreal 2008. A traditional dark English Mild. The term mild meaning “not bitter” does not refer to strength. Using pure natural spring water, New Zealand hops and imported specialty malts. Giving rich malt and light nut aromas and mellow malt and good hop notes to the palate. A smooth and easy drinkable ale. Perfectly partnered with beef, steaks, stews, goulash or kebabs.

473ml can. Pours a deep dark brown colour. Yeasty aroma. Taste was dark caramel and a little bit of the yeast. Overall, I found it very tasty.

Surprise this brew is not rated higher. To be honest, I am not a fan of the name because this is a great, easy drinking beer... The name however sounds a bit harsh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This one grows on you, the start is kind of bland but the flavour and balance are great. On the lighter side body wise and aroma, but a genuine malty ale that pleases and is not trying to be more.

Dark amber color, brown, clean, with red shades. The caramel aroma is mild and a bit dusty. Some caramel flavor, a bit breadish, with light earthy touch, and very light puke; some roasted nuts; correct bitterness.
Nutty Brown Ale, pleasant, simple.

Bottle. Deep brown in colour with good amounts of frothy beige head. Big roast aroma with some chocolate, toffee and grains. Generally hearty taste was a little sweet, a little sour with strong alcohol flavour. Some hopiness at the end. Full-bodied, thick, creamy and somewhat oily. I might have rated it higher if I had been drinking it in the winter.

April 27 2012. 473ml can pours dark mahogany brown with tight white head. Dark brown colour is fantastic; like 10w30, beautiful for english style dark ale. Lacing is ok for the little cap and has longevity. Aroma is sweet malt and strong hops. Taste is strong sweet malt off the top followed by a multiple of grains and oats giving it a complex combination that not only balances well but tastes fantastic. Hopsy finish but just enough to balance beer. Not too sweet or bitter, or too anything -- just right! A favorite for sure!

I’m surprised this isn’t rated much higher... I think it’s sweeter than standard for the style, but for me it was fantastic. Not cloying at all. Sweet, bitter, sour and spice playing dodgeball in your mouth, who will win? Your throat decides. This is what good beer is all about to me, closing your eyes and mulling over whatever you can pick out. The brewery should be proud of this one, can’t wait to try their other stuff next time I’m in Ontari-ari-o.

500ml can. Beautiful ruby brown concoction poured into pint glass (Lovibond 27). Smells sweet, but I can't put my finger on it. Powerful flavours; hope you like a strong tasting beer! I sure do. This is REALLY malty/grainy. Sweet initial burst, surrendering to bitter hoppy heaven (not too overstated to kill the joyous sweetness). This is a very interesting brew!

Can. Pour is dark brown/amber. Coffee and dark chocolate, caramel, hint of grass. Quite sweet and a little syrupy, finishes with grassy sourness and a bit metallic. Not offensive really, but the balance isn’t good. And too sweet.

A little bit of sweet malt, a little sugar and a nutty bitter finish. Pours dark mahogany. Smell doesn’t have a lot of character - really isn’t much there. On tap beerbistro
