473mL can from the LCBO. Pours dark brown, small, off-white head. Aroma is somewhat thin, smells of caramelly malt. Good mouthfeel, just the right level of carbonation. Flavour is on the sweet side of malty, with a very slight fruity note, and lightly hopped. Good, but not as good as Neustadt’s newly-reformulated lager.

473 mL can courtesy of matt7215. Thank you Matt Pours dark brown with a thin fizzy head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, nuts and chocolate. Very nutty, grainy taste. Slightly vegetal. Thin to medium body definitely doesn’t live up to the name. Update about three minutes later. The dominant flavor that I couldn’t identify just dawned on me... sunflower seeds.

Grainy undertone to the sweet malts in the nose along with plenty of caramel, some grassy hops and a touch of chocolate malt character. Hazy and deep, amber-brown body is topped by a finger of large bubled cream coloured head that recedes rapidly to a thin but lasting cover. Malt forward flavour avoids being overly sweet. Grassy hops and light bitterness offer a counterpoint as do some darker malts. Grainy and nutty notes are apparent especially in the aftertaste. Medium light body is quite dry with fair carbonation. Decent and well-made if somewhat middle of the road - there’s nothing really distinguishable or memorable about this beer. Snifter. Just above fridge temperature. Can (BB 12-08-2008, LCBO at Lynden Park Mall in Brantford, May-08).

I tried this beer on May 10, 2008 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto. The beer poured a slightly translucent dark brown (when held to the light) with a thin tan head that quickly dissipated. The aroma was heavily roasted malt, some sweet malt, and some grass. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly creamy, and a little bit of carbonation. The flavour has some roasted malt flavours, some sourness, and some sweet tones.

Courtesy MrManning. Can. Pours a chesnut brown with a thick white head. Roasted grain, some malty sweetness and a slightly metallic aroma. Taste is roasted grain, slightly thin with a porter like creaminess. Finishes a little bitter and creamy. Not bad for a can.

Can from Summerhill LCBO, Toronto. Thin, bitter, where’s the beer?!? This bummed me out, and left me wondering why no one in this province seems to put malt in their beer! A bit nutty.
