beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Apr 5, 2004 I may be mis-remembering but this seems different to me than when I first discovered it a few years back. Orangey-copper colour with thin head. Malty sweet caramel aromas and some fruit. Too watery for my liking but not a terrible flavour (slightly metallic bitter tinge alongside the sweetness) and a relatively dry basic finish. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 17, 2004 Updated: Jan 19, 2008Re-rate from the new single cans from the LCBO. Pours a deep orange with very little head and very little anything - looks still and flat - I’m on the fence on downgrading appearance from 3 to 2. Pretty intense fruitiness from aroma with some sweetness lurking in the background - enough to bump aroma from 5 to 6. Taste - not bad - lots of on style malty sweetness and fruitiness and some nice earthy and fruity hops come through. The whole package is let down by a watery body - and the taste itself, while it has plenty of good things going for it - tastes like it has been cut with water. Still, quite drinkable and very fresh tasting. My rating is bumped up from the original 5/3/6/3/10 as it is a decent offering.
On tap, Rebel Chop House, Bloor West Village. Nice orange colour, slightly fruity aroma. Pleasing, malty taste typical of the style, but a little thin. Overall a decent beer, but it didn’t leave too much of an impression. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2004 Pours amber coloured with a thin head. Aroma of caramel malt. Not as thick as I'd expect. Taste is decent but ther's definately something missing. GermanBrews76 (667), Eugene, Oregon, USA Sep 3, 2003 bright copper body. nofe is fruity (apples) a hint of alcohol with notes of caramel. initially fruity and sweet, becomes more dry and grainy after musty and cardboard malt tones. acidic and biting with some chocolate later on. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA Aug 1, 2003 kind of a giraffe-tawny color, classic iced-tea amber in fact though some sediment arrived in subsequent pours to cloud it somewhat. a smidgen of head perks up like a goldfish when you tap the glass. aroma is grainy-- cornflakes dampened with water from a rusty bucket. this is perhaps meant to emulate caramel and orange fragrances, but it fails utterly, like a toad attempting to sing like a nightingale. flavor likewise may aspire to aim in the direction of a scottish ale, but goes far astray-- it not only misses the target but maims the spectators: a slow gulp washes well over the tongue before laying down any flavor, this creates a thin, watery effect that cause one to think unkind thoughts. some toast malts and tin bitterness settle finally, but only in the guise of a faint second rate amber ale. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 23, 2003 (Bottle) Thanks to Joey Capps for making this beer available to me. Pours a frothy, yellow head and a thin, light copper body. Medium carbonation activity. Nose of Caramel, orange, earthy undertones. Roasted malt flavour with orange, watered whiskey, and cask. Whiskey finish. It would be great if Neustadt upped the ABV to 6.5-7.0% - interesting things would happen. Again, many thanks to Joe! joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada May 18, 2003 Clear dark orange-amber w/ beige head. Caramel, earth, wood, orange, & apricot on the nose. Firm body. Decent toasted malt flavour w/ notes of fruit (orange, tangerine?, apricot) earth & wood. Alcohol in the finish. Though there is quite a lot going on here, the flavours don't blend as well as they might. Cartoonkhaki (1150), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Mar 18, 2003 Faily decent beer. Nothing too special here. Ameber in colour nothing too special in the aroma.
