Oakes (8072), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 22, 2001 Updated: Sep 19, 2008Double-Fuggled. Cask @ C’est What? Old rate of Scottish Ale deleted. Golden colour with a thin, cask-y head. Really earthy hop aroma. Earthy, dry, and somewhat mushroomy character. Kind of thin, but that mushroom/diacetyl character inhibits drinkability. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Sep 24, 2001 amber colour, nice head, mango and bred aroma, lack of body and character - the taste does not live up to the promising aroma Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Aug 3, 2006 Lightly hazed amber ale with an extra thick big bubbled lightly off white head. Lightly herbal malt in aroma. In mouth, a crisp malt with peppery yeastiness, veering on being off, or starting to go into saison land. Not bad...for an infected beer. Medium bodied. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 20, 2008 Neustadt Scottish Pale Ale - Mild biscuity malts in the nose along with some light cabbage. Hazy copper blonde body is topped by a decent off white head that recedes to a partial cover with some lace. Caramel and biscuity, toasty malts are apparent along with a light bitterness and light floral hops. A touch of DMS in the aftertaste. Medium-light body with moderately prickly carbonation. Pretty middle of the road. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Can (LCBO at Lynden Park Mall in Brantford, May-08). Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 18, 2004 Updated: Jun 15, 2008fresh. Easy drink, utility brew. Will be popular. Some Scotish taste and not too malty Light hops, could use more. Nice mid-sip bit of fruit there, like apricot and pear. Woody paper. watery Radek Kliber (3932), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2002 I had this one at Smokeless Joe. Well it was ok, nothing great, some head, brownish, drinkable. Social drink. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 1, 2008 Cask. At C’est What. Bubbly copper-coloured pour, creamy beige head. Dry grain-malt aroma, almost flour-like, with a pleasant funky-herbal bitterness (fuggles - yes; double? dunno ....). The taste was dry and mostly grassy - slightly herbal, but not very acidic - in fact the flavour dropped off quite quickly. Overall light-bodied, with only moderate carbonation and bitterness - it smelled very nice, but ultimately didn’t really go anywhere. That being said, I would certainly try this on cask again.... Earlier Rating: 8/26/2007 Total Score: 3.3 Bottle (341ml). Sample at 2007 Fort York TFOB. Clear amber with an average off-white head. The aroma reminded me of many Belhaven beers - and I like those - sweet grain, pungent hops, and something tangy that makes me thing "dusty kerosene" for some reason, but in a good way. The taste was a little less tangy, and more cereal grain sweetness, with light honey and grassy hops to balance it - not much alcohol presence at all. Average body, somewhat creamy mouthfeel, nice amount of astringency and carbonation, with a medium-length finish. Decent, very easy to drink, would be a good summer beer for when you want something not too hoppy and not too light. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Updated: May 25, 20082008-05-23. Double Fuggled Edition. Dark amber body with a small beige head. Mild hoppy aroma, light sweetness and mild caramel malt notes. (6+) Similar flavour is quite well balanced, with a pleasant bitterness throughout and a caramel malt base. (6+) Average palate is pretty nice for a cask. (3+) Did not knock my socks off but I could enjoy a few pints of this over an evening I expect. 6+/3/6+/3+/14 - 3.3 On Cask at C’est What
<P>April 2005. Draft. A scottISH ale, not a SCOTCH ale. Amber brown body, small white head. Some malt in the aroma,. Flavour is surprisingly alcoholic for such a low octane beer, some sweet malt throughout. Palate is on the thin side but acceptable. Bit dull really, I much prefer their 10W30. 6/3/6/3/12 -3.0
