Pours a frothy, yellow head and a thin, light copper body. Medium carbonation activity. Nose of Caramel, orange, earthy undertones. Roasted malt flavour with orange, watered whiskey, and cask. Whiskey finish. It would be great if Neustadt upped the ABV to 6.5-7.0% - interesting things would happen. Again, many thanks to Joe! blankboy (3263), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Cask at C’est What. Pours a clear dark copper with a small diminishing creamy off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt and light herbal hops -- overly mild but pleasant enough. Slightly watery flavour of grain, and the hops appear mostly in the finish, not so much in the flavour. Light to average bodied. Decent enough, it doesn’t come across as really "Double" anything but it’s alright. Earlier Rating: 4/14/2006 Total Score: 2.4 Bottle at The Rhino. Pours a clear sparkling gold with an average size diminishing white head. Extremely mild aroma of malt and...I don’t know...I can barely smell anything. Flavour of malt and fruit is decent but quite watery. Thin bodied. There’s nothing bad about this beer but it loses points for being so damn mild and bland. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Caramel, roasted malt flavour, some bitterness. Sweet, but not overly, watery. Fair.

| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | May 7, 2008 I love this style, so it kills me to diss one of these beers, but this is thin, metallic, watery, and the hops are of a variety that sucks ass. I don’t know the technical name for this hop, but it shouldn’t be used in anything other than beers from Steelback. "Scottish Ale", my ass. This is too bitter and not malty enough for the style. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Updated: Jan 19, 2008Re-rate from the new single cans from the LCBO. Pours a deep orange with very little head and very little anything - looks still and flat - I’m on the fence on downgrading appearance from 3 to 2. Pretty intense fruitiness from aroma with some sweetness lurking in the background - enough to bump aroma from 5 to 6. Taste - not bad - lots of on style malty sweetness and fruitiness and some nice earthy and fruity hops come through. The whole package is let down by a watery body - and the taste itself, while it has plenty of good things going for it - tastes like it has been cut with water. Still, quite drinkable and very fresh tasting. My rating is bumped up from the original 5/3/6/3/10 as it is a decent offering.
On tap, Rebel Chop House, Bloor West Village. Nice orange colour, slightly fruity aroma. Pleasing, malty taste typical of the style, but a little thin. Overall a decent beer, but it didn’t leave too much of an impression.
