COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An ancient style of dark beer brewed in the Brandenburg region of Germany. Sip one while you take a bath, or, like we do in Germany, add it directly to your bath water.

500ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Helsinki)
7 Super rich, slightly chocolatey, roasty aroma.
5- Very dark red, just some ruby glints through it, lovely tight, fairly persistent, thick tan head.
7- Solid roasty body, slightly milky and again chocolatey. Hint of real burntness too. Very pleasant, even though it’s not a very complex.
4 Smooth palate, full-feeling and succulent in the mouth, pleasant carbonation. Finish is mostly the richly roasted grains. Some slight bitterness from burntness and hops accompany that.
13 Pretty solid schwartz, fortunately less sweet that many others we’ve had. Good one.

Bottle: Virtually almost as black as coal, quickly vanishing espresso-like foam; shy liquorice nose with some traces of alcohol and a tinge of fruitiness; malty flavour, leading to a dry, liquorice ending, low carbonation; not unpleasant, but quite "dead"; a quality , which seeems to typical for the Neuzelle brews......

(bottle) Dark brown to opaque colour with a medium foamy almost brown head with nice lace. Roastmalty aroma and a clear nose of caramel. Soft moderately sweet start with a malty taste and a note of coffee with a well-balanced malty hoppy dry finish with only light bitterness. A enjoyable Schwarzbier which could have a little more body.

I think the Green Giant defecated in this one...All I can smell is green peas galore, and I really dislike that vile, mushy green garbage...Roasted malt and smokiness try to redeem the rest of the beer but to no avail...What could have gone wrong to cause such nightmarish emanations??...

Rune (7361) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 25, 2012
500ml bottle by the courtesy of Finn. Clear rosewood coloured body. Rocky, dense, beige head that recedes slowly, leaving fragile lacing behind. Burnt dark malts to the nose, notes of cardboard. Mild smoked malts in flavour alongside dark bread, mid-sweet, on a backbone of roasted bitterness. Rather thin on the swallow and easy to drink. Not bad at all (Tromsø, 24.02.2012).

Not as much of a mouthfull as it’s name unfortunately. Dark black body with a nice beige head. Bit of roasty smokiness, in a light-meidum body. Not bad per se but it was not pushing the right buttons for me today.

On tap at the Cockney Pub, Aarhus. As it was on draught I missed out on all the daftness about bathing monks. Black as black can be. Restrained earthy aroma. Fruity, with some coffee notes and burnt malt. Really nice mix of malt and hop. Some sharpness on the finish. The mouthfeel is not that full but its a good schwarzbier. Whatever the therapeutic properties of pouring in into your bath, I’d prefer to drink it.

I liked this better than the Blackened Voodoo Schwarzbier because it was not as overly carbonated. Black color and decent head/lacing. I can’t see dropping $3.50 to add this to my bathwater though. Usually you take a bath to get rid of the beer smell, not vice versa. Fairly sweet malty maple flavor with coffee notes. I’d have this one again.

Dark chocolate color in the glass. Tastes like unsweetened chocolate. Very delicious. Rated 8/29/02

Poured a dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and hops.
