approached this with trepidation after experiencing the black abbot. had an aftershave and grass aroma. surprised by a strong taste of oats. quite salty and prickly. tasted very fresh and had quite an abrupt full bitter grainy finish. well-made. became slightly cider-like as it warmed
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sigmund (3495) - Hafrsfjord, NORWAY - JUL 29, 2004
500 ml bottle. Golden colour, low head. Interesting malty aroma with hints of hayloft and sheepshed - very nice. An unusual pils! Flavour is distinctly malty with just enough hoppiness to call it a pils. Good beer!
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ALLOVATE (1535) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - SEP 18, 2006
Bottle, off-license in Berlin, Germany (Getting tired of typing that but at around 70 euro cents a bottle for beer I drank as many as I could. Berlin, aside from being in itself the most beautiful city in the world, it was by far the cheapest for beer. Bottoms up!!!)
Like the British brewers with their Bitters, I liked Germany for trying to pick up the subtle nuances defining each Pilsener from another, as there are literally thousands . This was a nice drop, as with all I tasted from this brewer. It poured a summery, tawny gold, bright, sparkling, with an abundance of fine streaming bubbles. Head rose, rocky and snow-white, held and legged drabby lace down the glass. Aroma was like summer grains at time of harvest, to tie in with the appearance. Nice spicy edge to this with just a touch of honey and fresh mowed grass. In the mouth it is light, spritzy and tending towards the sweeter side. Licks of honey and orange peel upfront. Mid-palate has some dusty malts, well defined and on the swallow comes the hops. There is just a little peppery spice here, it is slightly herbal in flavour and drops of with very little bitterness to show some fading grainy malts and balanced hops. Very refreshing, light quaffer I can’t fault. In fact I quite liked the way it worked as with this brewers Black Abbot. Quite nice. (50cL, 04/03/07)
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jonas (4506) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - OCT 6, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2004 Very spicy aroma, hop and straw - quite unusual.
Golden, fine carbonation, ok head.
Salt and spices (a bit currylike in the start, later vanilla)prevail in the taste. A light napkin aroma when exhaling. Fruity, full middle.
I have never tasted a pilsner quite like this and I do not know what to make of it - it is....interesting.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dortmunder (961) - Herdecke, GERMANY - JAN 6, 2005
Bottled. Golden colour, bubbly head. Flowery, malty aroma. Malty, sweet, flowery with a honeyish tinge. Hoppy and bitter finish. Mediumbodied and generally a good mouthfeel. The best pilsner I drank in a time.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MoritzF (7137) - Bochum, GERMANY - MAY 18, 2005
(bottle) Clear golden colour with a small white head. Nice malty aroma with hints of bread and cereals. Flavour is initially malty, well rounded with a slight hopbitter finish, medium bodied. This one is a good example for a malt accentuated german Pilsener.
