This is pure awful candy beer. Seriously, I would like to take the brewer of this beer and stick his head in a bucket of hops and keep it there until his body absorbed enough that his mere proximty to the brewing process would ensure that this never happens again. I am not sure how this beer has ratings as high as it does. One of the few beers that I have not enjoyed at some level.

Far too sweet, I much prefer a bitterer beer. Granted I generally havent enjoyed the schwarz beers I have had so maybe I should just avoid the category altogether.

Bottle 500 ml. Dark with ruby. Pleasant aroma: sweetness, caramel, light smoke from burned sugar and malt, a little coffee and cake. Sweet taste with caramel, instant coffee, liquorice and sugar candy with a slight bitterness. Beer for dessert or ice cream.

German trip 2010: A ok Schwarzbier. Rather thin and watery. Remind me of a UK bitter with gas and less body.

(Neuzeller Schwarzer Abt (Black Abbot)) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a glass tankard, ABV 3.9% Dark brown colour on the boy with deep red hues, tall and thick, creamy, tan head, with very good retention, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, light chocolate. Sweet taste, again lots of toasted malts, even more chocolate now, light coffee and mocha, molasses. Medium thin body, low carbonation. Slightly sticky on the palate. Very drinkable this one.

Pours black with a frothy beige head. Aroma is sweet malts and slightly roasted. Taste is slightly roasty, slightly syrupy which is a turnoff and sweet.

Bottle; pours a very dark brown with a beige head; aroma is sweet with sugar, caramel, and a little roasted malt; taste is very sweet, almost overpowering, of sugar with hints of coffee and roasted malt; has a dry bitter finish; would be better if it was not so sweet

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2014 So this beer was the reason for the "Brandenburg beer war". Dark brown colour, beige head. Weak aroma of bread, some hay, coffee. Very sweet taste, due to the added syrup - hints of candied sugar, some chocolate, not much more. Would have probably been a lot better without the syrup.
