This is pure awful candy beer. Seriously, I would like to take the brewer of this beer and stick his head in a bucket of hops and keep it there until his body absorbed enough that his mere proximty to the brewing process would ensure that this never happens again. I am not sure how this beer has ratings as high as it does. One of the few beers that I have not enjoyed at some level.

Bottle @ Edeka, Berlin. Pours cloudy amber with a off white head. Sugar and syrup. Mild grain. Sweet, cloying and nasty.

Not quite as bad as some folks here are saying it is, though I’m picking it up relatively close to the brewery, perhaps it doesn’t travel well. Certainly a interesting brew, strangely sweet with a bit of roast and finally some smokiness coming through on the afternotes. I’m certainly only having one, but it’s an interesting one nonetheless.

Well, I had some certain hopes intos this Schwarzbier because it isn’t that bad style in Gemany and the brewery also seems quite "cool". But when purchasing the bottle in a local bottle shop and reading the label at home, I’ve got a bad feeling due to the added sugar in the beer. In Germany, this just never means anything good....The colour is a deep black, the head is low and the body is just medium. Nose of old dog. The taste was just....well, it wasn’t THAT bad, but to call this brew a beer is just like call Kid Rock a saint. It tastes first of all of brown sugar, then there comes malt and dark bread. It was only drinkable in a little game ("who downs this faster?"), but otherwise it was just awful.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours dark brown with a big head. Notes of nuts, malts and sweetener. This one is way too sweet sugary to be too that enjoyable.

50 cl bottle.
Originally rated on 20100412.
Pours dark copper color with a small head. Aroma of sugar, caramel, fruits and some dark malts. Flavor of dark malts, ripe fruit notes, yeast and sugar. Way too sweet and has some weird juicy notes.

500ml bottle. Clear darkest brown colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, off-white head. Characterless aroma with hints of artificial sweetener. Taste is slightly artificially sweet, rock sugar, hints of cola, just a touch of dark malt.

50cl bottle thanks to onkelgobber. Pours a dark brown to black with a red hue and some crema. The nose has toffee, going into Crunchie bar. The taste has more Crunchie Bar and some liquorice. The palate is creamy in texture with a medium structure and a rich but clean finish. Overall, a good schwarzbier which has some characteristics I would more associate with a bitter.

What a beautifull colour. What a marvellous sound when pouting to glas. It really invites you for a first drink. What a feeling in mouth - small bubbles are really caress tung and palate. But who on earth added some lemon soda in my schwartzen bier?
