COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The great Bill Monroe described his bluegrass music as ďScottish bagpipes and ole-time fiddliní. Itís Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. Itís blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound.Ē Our Black & Blue Grass begs to concur. Belgian yeast and stateside Saison spicing; black pepper and blue agave and lemongrass, and a great bet alongside any food you have around. Or, just enjoy a bomber of Black & Blue Grass as you watch the springtime ponies run.

Draft to taster at the brewhouse. Looks solid; a transparent light burnt-orange with white lacing. Smells solid; doughy and spicy. Tastes like it smells, but less complex. Average on the palate. Alright.

tap at Brewhaven festival - Gold pour with a very mild citrus and spicy yeast aroma. Itís mild to moderately bitter, a lightly spiced brew with a somewhat dry finish. Itís a fairly good brew, but doesnít really rise above average.

22oz bottle from Louisville Beer Store in Louisville, KY. Pours a mostly clear, orange-gold colored body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is flowery with soft agave giving off just a light sweetness, lemon-grass, and pepper as advertised. Clean pils malts with a bit of a doughiness and a light yeast spice. Flavor is similar. Very floral up front with a nice black pepper note and a light lemon-grass. Touches of yeasty spice in the middle with a clean, somewhat grainy and doughy pils maltiness. Light agave note towards the end that helps this dry cleanly with a lightly spiced bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a light-medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice beer. Simple, clean pils malts with a pleasant flowery quality throughout as well as a light black pepper and lemon-grass. Enjoyable.

22 oz bottle, not a ton of carbonation left, though it wasnít flat. Poured an opaque orange-brown. Smelled almost-flowery, maybe some rose in the scent. Flavor was very sweet and nearly syrupy, had a very thick mouthfeel with a bit of the flower flavor as well. I donít know where I got the flower from. Enjoyable.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with a half inch off-white head that didnít stay around for too long. Thereís a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, it smells like honey/blue agave, lemongrass, citrus, apples and some peppery spice. The brew tastes like honey/blue agave, peppercorns, lemongrass and some citrus. I liked the taste of this brew more and more the longer I drank it. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, itís a bit slick and smooth with low carbonation. I think this is a good overall brew, I liked it.

Another NABC release priced fairly meant I had to pick it up. It is nice to have ready access to a great regional brewery like New Albanian. I canít wait to see what the next bomber brings when I open it later this month.

Aroma / Appearance - The semi-transparent bronze body and thin wispy head mesh well. Cereal grains, caramel, and hay are fine. The dash of Diet Sprite and Lipton Iced Tea diluted with ice are less so.

Flavor / Palate - Malt infused Lipton iced tea is strong at first. Flat Sprite transitions to a light sweet finish. It isnít overly complex. However for a steamy hot evening it does a fine job of refreshing the palate. I think I would probably pass on this at the brewpub but even so it isnít a terrible saison.

Tap at Bank Street. Spicy floral citrus aroma, reminds me quite a bit of rose geranium. Clear golden with a large white head. Just like the aroma, the flavor was very rose geranium .. spicy floral citrus, with a light malty backbone. Light body. I found this unique and very enjoyable. Glad I got a bomber to take home.

Sampled at 2012 Indianapolis Brew Ha Ha. Kind of an interesting beer. A little hard to explain. Some spice but not too much. I would try this one with food.

I am not wildly familiar with agave, so some of this was really unexplored territory for me. Aroma of (what I perceive to be) agave, honey, light pepper and lemongrass. Appearance is lightly cloudy gold with virtually no head. Flavor starts out with a significant dose of the agave, low pepper, some lemon and a herbal finish. Palate is bubbly with a nice mouthfeel. Good; certainly very interesting.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Tea colored. Dry hops. Thin and, yes, tea tasting. Vegetable tastong.
