My Bottom Line:
This floral and resinous strong ale is engulfed in honeyed caramel before a disproportionate hop bitterness takes hold of the palate.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin slice of foam stays atop the cloudy dark amber.
-The carbonation is quite soft, which makes the body feel heavier.
-The mouthfeel is a tad too oily sweet for my tastes.
-Malt and hop flavours could be better defined.
-This is certainly flavourful, but it remains a simple and hefty strong ale.
-The Imperial India Pale Ale mention on the label is disappointing…

Bomber from Total Wine in Orlando, FL. Pours translucent copper/amber with minimal head. Smells rather malty. Near full bodied. It’s rather malty and the hops are more floral than anything. Good drink, but clearly not NW style. Works for me.

Hazy copper pour with an off-white head. The aroma is mostly pine and herbal hops. It has a medium body with smooth texture and average carbonation. The taste is bitter with a long finish.

Pours a dark orange/light red with a nice two finger white head leaving good lacing down the glass. Smells of rich caramel malt. Not a whole lot of hops in the nose. Starts off a little caramel, but rounds into an astringent piney bitterness lingering on the tongue. Mouthfeel is good. A little bit sticky with good carbonation, but not cloying. Just an ok beer. Nothing really stands out about it, but nothing is terribly poor either.

22 oz bought at the keg in Indiana. Darker imperial IPA than I'm used to. Taste the booze bite. Not a huge fan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee, grass and pine. The flavor is a bit more complex. I get some toffee, biscuit and caramel malts, as well as some grass from the hops and a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

2/19/2011: NABC Hoptimus Imperial IPA... Aroma: Citrus (slight grapefruit) and light toffee maltiness. Appearance: Bright copper color; transparent liquid with a dense beige crown. Flavor: Orange, grapefruit, and a splash of pineapple; moderate bitterness. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; silky smooth texture. Overall: Good, but seems a bit weak for my taste.

Draught sample (10.7% ABV; 100 IBU) at New Albanian Brewing Company in New Albany, IN. Rating #154 for this beer.

Bottlepour copper color. Nosedank hop and molasses. Taste similar, dank up front, soem sweetness in early palate, followed by a weird wood or grilled flavor. Bitter finish.

Press a hazy yellow gold from the bottle with thin ring of off-white lacy head. Aroma is big caramel malt and booze, slight earthy hop. Taste is a little more balanced with some piney notes, but still a little sweet. Meh.

Bomber - pours pale amber with ivory head. Nose is caramel, a wild field, and a bunch of indiscernible goodies akin to grapefruit. Flavor adds citrus colony that just got paint stripped. Dry. Bitter. Fruity aftertaste. I was hoping for a more pronounced malty backbone, but there wasn’t much there. A good thing I didn’t rate this three years ago when I was at the brewery; I would have hated it. Now, it is passable for a dipa.
